Why the X Spirit reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The X Spirit uses a fuel gauge IC that builds its charge model against the original cell's internal resistance and discharge curve. When a new cell goes in, that stored model no longer matches the physical cell. The gauge reads voltage correctly but miscalculates state of charge because its coulomb counter was calibrated to the old cell. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by a complete charge cycle forces the IC to rebuild the model against the new cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% remaining on the replacement cell

This happens when the modem or display draws a high current pulse and the cell voltage sags below the BMS cutoff threshold — even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. It is a voltage-under-load failure, not a capacity failure. The fuel gauge IC hasn't yet mapped the new cell's voltage cliff, so it doesn't predict the drop before it hits. Run two full discharge-charge cycles at standard rate to let the gauge learn where that cliff sits on this specific cell.

The X Spirit won't power on at all after the new battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?

The BMS locks out when cell voltage drops below approximately 2.5V during storage, which is a protection against deep-discharge damage. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without attempting to power it on. Most BMS circuits on this cell will accept a trickle charge at that point and release the lockout. If the charge LED does not activate within 45 minutes, the cell has discharged past recoverable threshold.

Fast charging stopped working after fitting the replacement TLi020F1 — the phone only charges slowly now.

The charge IC on the X Spirit negotiates charge rate on the first cycle after a new cell is detected. Until the fuel gauge has completed one full calibration cycle, the system may default to a conservative charge rate as a precaution. Run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge fully at standard rate without interruption. Fast charging typically resumes from the second cycle once the BMS and charge IC have exchanged valid state-of-charge data.

The battery percentage jumps erratically — it reads 60%, then 45%, then back to 55% within minutes.

Erratic percentage readings after a cell swap point directly to the fuel gauge IC recalibrating its coulomb counter against an unfamiliar discharge curve. The gauge is sampling voltage correctly but its internal model — built from the old cell — produces inconsistent state-of-charge estimates as load current changes. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Perform one uninterrupted full discharge to shutdown followed by a full charge to 100%, and the gauge IC will lock in a stable model for the new cell.
