Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Oppo Realme 5i / Realme C3 — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BLP729)
The BLP729 is a 3.85V, 4900mAh Li-Polymer cell that fits the Realme 5i, Realme 5, Realme C3, and Realme C11. It replaces the original factory cell when capacity has dropped, the phone shuts off unexpectedly, or charge cycles no longer hold. Capacity is 18.87Wh.
- Realme 5 series and C-series fit: These models share the BLP729 connector, cell footprint, and BMS handshake profile — same voltage rail at 3.85V nominal and matching flex tab position means one cell covers the full compatibility group without adapters.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Realme 5i unit. The BMS accepted the cell, passed the protection circuit check, and the charge IC reached full termination voltage without fault flags.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before the coulomb counter locks in its reference points.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Realme 5i after a cell swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still running the discharge curve it learned from the old, degraded cell. The new cell hits a steeper voltage drop under screen or modem load than the IC expects, so it triggers a low-voltage shutdown before the percentage reaches zero. It is not a faulty cell — it is a calibration mismatch. Run one full discharge from 100% to auto-off, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without pulling the cable early, and the IC will re-anchor its curve to the new cell.
Phone reports wrong percentage after BLP729 replacement
The Realme 5i uses a coulomb counter that tracks charge in and out relative to a stored full-capacity value from the previous cell. After swapping to a new 4900mAh cell, that stored value is stale and the reported percentage drifts — often reading 15–20% high before the first real drop. The fix is one uninterrupted full cycle: discharge until the phone powers off on its own, then charge straight to 100% at standard rate with fast charge off. After that cycle, the fuel gauge IC writes a new full-capacity reference and percentage accuracy returns to within a few points.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Realme 5i won't turn on at all after the new BLP729 battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?
It is likely in BMS lockout. Li-Polymer cells that drop below roughly 2.5V trigger a protection cutoff that blocks output entirely to prevent cell damage. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing any buttons. The charge IC trickle-charges the cell back above the lockout threshold, at which point the BMS re-enables output and the phone will boot normally. If there is still no response after 45 minutes on a known-working charger, check the charging port for debris before assuming the cell is faulty.
Fast charging stopped working on my Realme 5i right after I fitted the new battery — USB-PD negotiation seems to break every time I plug in.
On the first charge cycle after a cell swap, the BMS on a new cell sometimes does not respond to the fast-charge handshake because it has not yet completed an initial full cycle at standard rate. The charge IC falls back to 5V/1A as a safety default. Run one complete charge to 100% at standard rate with fast charging disabled in Settings, then re-enable it — after that cycle the BMS accepts the proprietary charge protocol and fast charging resumes at the rated rate.
The Realme 5i gets noticeably warm near the back panel during charging with the replacement cell — is the new battery faulty?
A new Li-Polymer cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a cell that has been through 50–100 cycles. Higher impedance means more heat is generated as the charge IC pushes current in during the first few charges. This is normal and reduces after 3–5 full cycles as impedance settles. If the phone stays warm well past 80% state of charge or feels hot rather than warm, check that you are not charging while running a game or video — combined load on a new high-impedance cell amplifies heat generation and you should avoid it for the first few cycles.
