Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Optus E589 — 3.7V Li-Polymer 3000mAh Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 3000mAh Li-Polymer battery fits the Optus E589 portable WiFi hotspot. The E589 runs a cellular modem and a WiFi radio simultaneously, so the battery works harder than most handheld devices of similar size. This replacement restores full capacity when the original cell has degraded.

  • E589 platform fit: The E589 uses a slim Li-Polymer cell at 3.7V nominal to power both the LTE modem and the multi-device WiFi broadcast stack. The connector pinout and BMS voltage thresholds match the original cell, so the device firmware recognises the battery without error flags.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery under combined modem and WiFi load — four client devices connected, cellular signal at two bars. The BMS held cutoff correctly at low voltage and accepted charge without thermal events at the standard charge rate.
  • Ventilation during extended sessions: Keep the E589 on a hard, open surface during long sessions. When connected devices are far from the hotspot, the cellular radio pushes to maximum transmit power — that sustained RF output generates heat directly adjacent to the battery cell.

Hotspot disconnecting users mid-session on a new battery

The E589 drives two radios at once — LTE modem and 2.4GHz WiFi access point. At maximum connected clients, instantaneous current draw spikes sharply. If the cell has any internal resistance above spec, voltage sags briefly below the BMS trip threshold and the device resets. A fresh Li-Polymer cell at full capacity handles the surge; a partially discharged or degraded cell cannot. Keep the battery above 30% charge during high-demand sessions to stay clear of the sag zone.

E589 not powering on after sitting unused for several weeks

Li-Polymer cells self-discharge at roughly 2–3% per month, but the E589's standby circuitry draws a small continuous current that accelerates this. After extended storage, the cell can drop below the BMS minimum boot voltage — typically around 3.0V — and the device will not respond to the power button. Connect the charger and leave it for at least 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on; the BMS needs time to confirm cell voltage has recovered above the 3.0V re-enable threshold before it will pass current to the board.

Frequently Asked Questions

My E589 hotspot keeps dropping all connected devices for a few seconds, then reconnects — why does this happen with a new battery?

This is a voltage sag reset. When multiple devices are connected and the cellular signal is weak, both radios pull peak current simultaneously — the combined spike can momentarily drag cell voltage below the BMS cutoff, causing a brief device reset. It is not a firmware fault. Reduce the number of connected clients, or move the hotspot closer to a window to improve signal strength and lower modem transmit power. Keeping the battery above 40% charge during heavy sessions also raises the margin above the sag threshold.

The E589 battery drains much faster than expected even with only two devices connected — what causes that?

Poor cellular signal is the most common cause. When the LTE signal drops to one or two bars, the modem increases transmit power to its maximum level to maintain the connection — this alone can triple the current draw compared to a full-signal session. Check your carrier signal strength indicator on the E589 status screen. Repositioning the hotspot near a window or an exterior wall typically recovers one to two signal bars and brings power consumption back to normal levels.

After the E589 sat in a drawer for two months, it won't turn on at all — is the new battery dead?

Almost certainly not dead — just deeply discharged. The E589's standby draw can pull a stored battery below 3.0V, the minimum voltage the BMS will allow for device startup. Plug in the original charger and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes without pressing the power button. Once the cell recovers above 3.0V, the BMS re-enables output and the device will boot normally. If the charge indicator light does not appear within five minutes of connecting the charger, try a different USB power source rated at 1A or above.
