Palm Visor Prism — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (14-0006-00)

This is a 3.7V, 1600mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Palm Visor Prism PDA. It replaces OEM part number 14-0006-00. If your Visor Prism won't hold a charge or won't power on at all, this is the direct cell replacement.

  • Visor Prism platform fit: The Visor Prism uses a single-cell Li-ion pack at 3.7V with a specific connector and BMS handshake tied to the device's power management IC. This cell matches that voltage rail and connector footprint exactly — the BMS communicates correctly with the Prism's charge controller on first install.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on Visor Prism hardware. The BMS held charge termination at the correct cutoff voltage and did not trigger false low-battery shutdowns during normal PDA operation, including screen-on and data entry use.
  • Pre-swap data sync: The Visor Prism stores open application state and unsaved data in SRAM powered directly by the main battery. Before pulling the old cell, sync your device to the host computer via HotSync. Removing the battery without syncing first will erase anything not yet written to flash storage.

Why the Visor Prism loses all data when the battery is swapped

Unlike modern smartphones, the Visor Prism holds a large portion of its working data — contacts, calendar entries, app state — in volatile SRAM. That memory requires continuous battery voltage to retain its contents. The moment the cell drops below the minimum retention voltage, the SRAM contents are gone. There is no internal backup capacitor large enough to bridge a full battery removal. The fix is a HotSync to the desktop conduit before the swap, so all records are committed to the PC-side database.

Visor Prism won't boot after new battery installed

A freshly shipped Li-ion cell may arrive at a low storage charge — sometimes below the minimum voltage the Visor Prism's boot sequence requires to initialise the display and OS. If the device shows nothing on screen after fitting the new battery, connect it to the cradle charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before pressing the power button. The power management IC on the Prism blocks the boot sequence below approximately 3.4V to protect the display controller. Charge first, then boot.

My Visor Prism lost all my contacts after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes, and it's caused by how the Prism stores data. Contacts, calendar entries, and app databases live in SRAM, which requires continuous battery voltage to hold its contents. The moment the old cell is removed, anything not synced to the desktop is gone. Run a HotSync to your PC before every battery swap — that writes all records to the conduit database on the host side, and a restore sync after the swap brings everything back.

The Visor Prism powers on but dies almost immediately after fitting the new battery — what's wrong?

The cell shipped at a low storage voltage and hasn't been charged yet. The Prism's power management IC will allow a boot but cuts out quickly when the cell can't sustain the load of the backlit color LCD. Connect the device to its cradle or travel charger and charge it fully before use. You're looking for the charge indicator to clear — typically once the cell reaches around 4.1–4.2V — before the device will run normally.

After fitting the new battery, HotSync via the cradle keeps dropping the connection partway through — what's causing it?

The Visor Prism's serial HotSync circuit is voltage-sensitive, and a partially charged new cell can cause the logic level to dip during the sync handshake, dropping the connection. Charge the battery fully before attempting a sync. If it still drops, check that the cradle contacts and the battery terminals are clean and seated — oxidised contacts add resistance and amplify the voltage sag problem. A full charge first resolves this in most cases.
