This 3.7V, 900mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the original cell in the Palm Visor Pro handheld PDA. The Visor Pro is an early 2000s Palm OS organizer with a color screen and expandable memory slots. After two decades, original batteries commonly hold a fraction of rated capacity — this replacement restores full operating voltage to the device.

  • Visor Pro platform fit: The Visor Pro uses a flat Li-Polymer cell with a proprietary connector and BMS handshake tied to the 14-0020-00 specification. The physical dimensions — 44.61 × 23.63 × 11.13mm — match the battery bay exactly, and the BMS communicates correctly with Palm OS power management.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on a Visor Pro unit. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and the device held the correct 3.7V nominal rail throughout the discharge curve.
  • Sync before you swap: The Visor Pro stores active application data and user state in SRAM that is powered directly by the main battery. Remove the cell without syncing to the host computer first and any unsaved data — contacts, calendar entries, open memos — is gone. HotSync before pulling the battery, every time.

Why the Visor Pro loses all data on a battery swap

Palm OS PDAs of this era use volatile SRAM as working memory. Unlike flash storage, SRAM needs continuous power to retain its contents. The moment the battery is removed, SRAM loses voltage and all data in RAM is wiped — including open applications, unsaved records, and system state. A full HotSync to a desktop computer moves that data off the device and onto stable storage before power is cut. Once the new battery is installed and the device boots, a second HotSync restores everything cleanly.

This usually means the new cell shipped with a low state of charge and the boot sequence can't complete at that voltage. Palm OS requires a minimum voltage threshold to initialise the OS and load from storage — below that, the device loops or freezes at the splash screen. Connect the Visor Pro to its charging cradle or cable and charge the new battery for at least two hours before attempting to boot. Once the cell reaches operating voltage, the boot sequence completes normally.

My Visor Pro wiped all my contacts and calendar after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes, and it happens because the Visor Pro stores its working data in SRAM, which needs constant battery power to hold its contents. The instant the old cell is removed, SRAM loses voltage and everything in RAM is gone. The fix going forward is to run a full HotSync to your desktop before removing the battery — that moves all data off the device onto stable storage. After the new battery is in and the device boots, sync again to restore it.

Visor Pro won't get past the logo screen after fitting the new battery — what's wrong?

The new cell likely arrived below the minimum voltage Palm OS needs to complete its boot sequence. A low cell can't supply enough power to initialise the OS, so the device stalls or loops at the splash screen. Put the Visor Pro on charge for at least two hours before trying to power it on. Once the battery reaches operating voltage, the boot sequence runs through normally.

Battery life on my Visor Pro seems much shorter when I use the wireless sync cradle — why?

The IR or wireless sync radio draws significantly more current than the Visor Pro uses in standby or basic organiser tasks. On a 900mAh cell at 3.7V, that radio load accelerates voltage drop noticeably compared to screen-only use. If the battery is reading full but the device cuts out during sync, check that the cell has completed a full charge cycle first — a partially charged cell will sag under radio load faster than under light use. Let it charge fully, then retry the sync.
