This is an 18V 2000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Panasonic MC-WDD91 cordless stick vacuum. It uses OEM part number AVV12V-U9 and fits several models in the MC-WDD91 and MC-6DD65 lines. If your original battery no longer holds a full charge or fails to power the motor, this is the direct replacement.
- MC-WDD91 and MC-6DD65 compatibility: These models share the same 18V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A replacement must match all three — voltage alone is not enough. This cell meets the handshake requirement the vacuum's charger checks before initiating a charge cycle.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through full charge and discharge cycles on the MC-WDD91 platform. The BMS responded correctly to motor-start current draw, held voltage under sustained carpet load, and released from protection mode after brief overcurrent events as expected.
- Dock charging behaviour on cordless vacuums: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock permanently. Cordless stick vacuums on continuous dock charge develop capacity fade much faster than those charged only when depleted. Charge to full and remove from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
The MC-WDD91 motor pulls significantly more current when the filter is partially blocked — well above normal rated draw. The BMS reads this as a voltage sag and begins throttling power to protect the cell, even when charge level looks adequate. The result is weaker suction that recovers once the motor cools or load drops. Clean the filter before assuming the battery is at fault.
Replacement battery not charging on the original dock
The MC-WDD91 charger runs a BMS handshake check before it starts charging — it looks for a valid signal from the battery's protection circuit. If the replacement cell's BMS does not respond within the expected window, the charger stays dark and no charge current flows. This is not a faulty battery or charger in most cases. Seat the battery firmly, disconnect the dock from mains for 10 seconds, reconnect, then reinsert — this resets the handshake sequence and usually resolves the issue.

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When suction is restricted — blocked filter, stuck debris in the head — the motor labours and draws current above the BMS threshold. The protection circuit cuts power briefly to prevent cell damage, then resets. Check and clean the filter first. If the motor runs cleanly after that, the battery is fine.
My MC-WDD91 seems to run for less time than it used to, even with this new battery installed — what causes that?
A partially blocked filter forces the motor to work harder, pulling more current than rated from the cell. More current draw means the battery depletes faster, even at full charge. This gets misread as low battery capacity. Clean the filter thoroughly and retest — if runtime improves, the filter was the cause, not the cell.
The original battery on my MC-WDD91 faded noticeably within a year — how do I avoid the same with this one?
Continuous dock charging is the main cause of early capacity fade in cordless stick vacuums. The charger delivers a low trickle current to maintain 100% charge, and Li-ion cells held at high state-of-charge under constant trickle deteriorate faster than cells allowed to cycle. Charge this battery fully, then remove it from the dock. Only return it to charge when depleted.
