Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

RCA 2101 / 2103 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (AN8526 / BT10)

This is a 3.6V, 600mAh Ni-MH battery for RCA cordless phone handsets including the 2101, 2103, 2184, and 2189, plus over 38 additional models sharing the same pack format. It replaces OEM part numbers AN8526 and BT10. Fit it when the original no longer holds a charge or the handset dies mid-call.

  • 2101 / 2103 / 2184 / 2189 handset family: These models share the same 3.6V three-cell NiMH pack geometry, connector pin-out, and base station charging voltage rail — one battery covers the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a cordless phone test rig. The cell voltage climbed steadily to 4.2V at full charge, and the base station handshake registered a normal charge-complete signal with no fault codes.
  • First-charge conditioning on RCA NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base cradle for a full 16-hour charge before first use. RCA's base station charges NiMH packs at a slow trickle rate — skipping this step leaves cells partially formed and cuts usable capacity on early cycles.

Range dropping on RCA handsets after a battery swap

DECT transmit power on these handsets tracks the supply voltage from the battery. A new NiMH pack that hasn't been fully conditioned sits below its rated terminal voltage under RF load, and the handset's transmit circuit pulls back power to compensate. Range shrinks noticeably — sometimes cutting a 50-metre indoor range down to less than half. Three full charge-discharge cycles bring the cell voltage up to a stable 1.2V per cell under load, restoring normal transmit output.

Base station charge light stays red or shows an error after installing a new pack

RCA base stations sense the pack voltage before starting a charge cycle. A battery that has sat in storage for months can drop below the 3.0V acceptance threshold the base expects to see. When voltage is too low, the base flags a fault rather than charging. Fix: hold the handset power button off, then reseat it in the cradle — some units will attempt a recovery trickle charge from that state. If the light stays red after 30 minutes, use a standalone NiMH charger to bring the pack above 3.2V, then return it to the base.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RCA handset talk time is still short after three days — is the new battery faulty?

NiMH cells in cordless phones need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. Early cycles deliver noticeably less than 600mAh because the cell chemistry hasn't fully formed. Run the handset until the low-battery beep sounds, then place it back in the base for a full charge — repeat this five times before judging capacity. Talk time should increase with each cycle.

The handset won't pair with the base after I swapped the battery — what happened?

Removing power from some RCA DECT handsets clears the pairing data stored in the handset's memory. The fix is a manual re-registration: press and hold the base station's page or link button until the registration light flashes, then go into the handset menu under "Registration" or "Base Setup" and follow the pairing prompt. Check your model's manual for the exact menu path — the 2101 series labels it under "Settings > Register Handset."

The new battery drains overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — why?

This points to the handset not making full contact with the base charging pins, not a battery defect. Check that the handset clicks fully into the cradle and that the charge indicator light activates — a slight tilt or debris on the contact pins breaks the circuit. Clean the gold contacts on both the handset and cradle with a dry cloth, reseat the handset, and confirm the charge light turns on solid within 10 seconds.
