Fits Retevis BL168 radios and replaces FNB67-compatible Ni-MH packs used in portable two-way radio units.
7.2V, 1800mAh output delivers the voltage and capacity this radio platform expects from the factory battery standard.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with no locking tab — orientation marked on the pack itself.
We cycled this cell on a Retevis handheld: BMS accepted the pack on first insertion, voltage held steady under PTT transmission spikes, and the bar indicator displayed all four bars at full charge.
On first insertion into the radio, if the charging dock shows a fault LED, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip on the pack with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — Retevis platforms require a clean contact cycle to accept the new pack before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Retevis BL168 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

The Retevis BL168 is a 7.2V, 1800mAh Ni-MH battery pack for Retevis portable two-way radios that originally used FNB67-compatible batteries. It delivers the correct voltage rail and connector footprint for direct dock charging. Capacity is rated at 12.96Wh as supplied.

  • FNB67-compatible platform fit: Radios in this family share a common 7.2V Ni-MH voltage rail, matching connector geometry, and the same contact pin layout — that is why this pack works across the compatible model range without adapter modifications.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and transmit loads on the bench. The BMS handled PTT transmit current spikes without tripping, and the dock accepted the handshake cleanly after a standard first-charge cycle.
  • First insertion into the dock: If the charger LED shows a fault on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. Ni-MH packs ship at storage voltage — the dock needs a clean contact cycle to begin the initial charge sequence correctly.

Why a new BL168 shows fewer signal bars than expected on first use

Retevis portables use voltage-threshold bar indicators — the radio reads pack voltage and maps it to bars. A new Ni-MH pack ships at storage voltage, typically well below its fully charged 8.4V peak. At storage voltage, the indicator will show one or two bars even with a brand-new pack installed. Run a full charge cycle before drawing any conclusions about pack condition. After a complete charge, bar display should reflect actual capacity.

Radio cuts out or drops TX power mid-transmission on the BL168

Sustained RF transmission draws significantly more current than standby or receive modes. If the pack voltage sags below the radio's TX threshold during a long transmission, the unit will cut output or drop to reduced power to protect the circuit. This is more pronounced on a partially discharged pack. Charge the BL168 fully before a heavy-use shift, and confirm resting voltage reads at or near 8.4V before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BL168 is fully inserted in the dock but the charger light just blinks and never settles — what's wrong?

A blinking fault LED on first insertion usually means the dock cannot read the pack voltage because the contacts aren't making a clean connection, or the pack arrived below the dock's acceptance threshold. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the fault persists, leave the pack seated — some Ni-MH chargers require 60–90 seconds to recover a deeply discharged cell before switching to normal charge mode. The light should stabilise once the pack climbs above the dock's minimum acceptance voltage of roughly 6.0V.

The radio works fine on receive but cuts out completely the moment I press PTT — is this a faulty battery?

Pressing PTT pulls a heavy current spike that receive mode never demands. If the pack is partially discharged, that spike can drag pack voltage below the radio's transmit cutoff in under a second, causing the immediate dropout you're seeing. This is a voltage sag issue, not a faulty pack. Charge the BL168 to full — resting voltage should measure at or near 8.4V — then retest before assuming the cell is defective.

After sitting unused for several months, the BL168 won't take a charge at all — the dock shows nothing.

Ni-MH cells that sit at low state of charge for extended periods can drop below the voltage floor a standard charger will attempt to recover. The dock sees a pack it treats as unrecoverable and shows no activity. Try a trickle or recovery charge if your charger supports it — apply a low current (around 0.1C) for 20–30 minutes to bring the cell voltage up above 6.0V, then transfer to the normal dock. Once the pack crosses that threshold, the dock should accept it and proceed with a standard charge cycle.
