Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ROCKETFISH RF-MAB2 / RF-MAB2-T — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (ICP5/25/25)
This 3.7V, 300mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the ROCKETFISH RF-MAB2 and RF-MAB2-T wireless headsets. It powers both the audio playback and DECT radio transmission simultaneously. Capacity figure is from the product specification — 300mAh / 1.11Wh.
- RF-MAB2 and RF-MAB2-T fit: Both headset variants share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — 26.91 x 25.80 x 5.00 mm cell, same voltage rail, same charge termination logic. One cell covers both.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the RF-MAB2 base station. The BMS completed handshake correctly, charge termination triggered at the right cutoff, and the protection circuit responded normally to load from the combined audio and radio draw.
- First-cycle base station logging: Place the headset in the base station for a complete uninterrupted charge cycle before making any calls. DECT headsets log the new cell's capacity during that first cycle — skipping it causes the talk-time estimate to read inaccurately for several sessions.
Why the RF-MAB2 cuts out mid-call on a new battery
The RF-MAB2 runs audio decoding and the DECT radio transmitter off the same cell simultaneously. That combined draw creates short current spikes that can trip the BMS protection circuit if the cell hasn't been through a proper conditioning cycle. A cell sitting at storage voltage — around 3.7V — has not yet been characterised by the base station's charge controller. Run two to three full charge-discharge cycles through the base station before extended use, and the cut-outs typically stop.
Base station showing a charging error after fitting the new cell
The RF-MAB2 base station reads a small identification signal from the battery's protection circuit before it begins charging. If the headset was stored or shipped with the cell at a low voltage, the base may not detect that signal and will flag an error instead of starting a charge. Remove the headset from the base, wait 10 seconds, then reseat it firmly — the connector needs full contact for the BMS handshake to complete. If the error persists, check that the cell voltage hasn't dropped below 3.0V, which is the recovery threshold for this chemistry.

Frequently Asked Questions
My RF-MAB2 headset cuts out mid-call even though the battery shows fully charged — what's happening?
The DECT radio and audio circuit pull current at the same time, and that combined spike can trip the battery's protection circuit if the cell hasn't been through a conditioning cycle yet. This is common on a new replacement cell that the base station hasn't fully characterised. Run two or three complete charge cycles through the base station before relying on the headset for calls. After conditioning, the cutoffs stop for most users.
Talk time on the new battery is noticeably shorter than it was on the original — is that normal?
Yes, for the first three to five cycles. A fresh lithium-polymer cell doesn't reach its full rated capacity immediately — the electrodes need several full charge-discharge cycles to reach stable capacity. The RF-MAB2 base station also recalibrates its talk-time estimate over those early cycles, so the indicator will read low until the cell is broken in. By cycle five, capacity should be at or close to the rated 300mAh.
The headset gets noticeably warm during long calls — is that a battery problem?
Mild warmth is normal for this housing size. The RF-MAB2 packages the cell, radio module, and audio circuit in a very small enclosure, so sustained combined draw generates heat with limited airflow. If the headset becomes hot enough to be uncomfortable, that points to the protection circuit not throttling correctly — reseat the battery to confirm the connector is fully engaged and the BMS is operating. Warmth that fades within a minute of ending a call is the cell dissipating normal charge heat and is not a fault.
