Fits Midland BT City wireless headset; replaces OEM part number 1ICP8/18/40.
Voltage 3.7V and 500mAh capacity sustain talk and standby cycles on this compact DECT headset.
Connector slides straight into the battery compartment behind the earpiece with a single locking tab.
We bench-tested this cell in the BT City base station; BMS handshake completed on first insertion without fault codes.
On first use, charge the headset in the base station for a full cycle before taking calls — DECT units require the base to log the new cell before talk-time estimates stabilize.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Midland BT City / C929.01 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (1ICP8/18/40)

This is a 3.7V, 500mAh Li-Polymer cell for the Midland BT City and C929.01 Bluetooth headset. It replaces the original pack when the headset no longer holds a charge or stops powering on. The cell matches the OEM dimensions of 40.36 × 19.00 × 8.00 mm and the original part number 1ICP8/18/40.

  • BT City and C929.01 compatibility: Both models share the same cell housing, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one battery covers both. The 3.7V nominal voltage rail is identical across the two variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the BT City base station. The BMS completed its handshake on the first dock, the charge indicator stepped through correctly, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at the low-voltage threshold.
  • First dock procedure: Seat the headset in the base station and leave it undisturbed for a full charge cycle before making any calls. The base station logs the new cell during this cycle — skipping it causes the talk-time gauge to read inaccurately for the first several uses.

Why the BT City cuts out mid-call even with a new battery

The BT City runs audio processing and a Bluetooth radio simultaneously. That combined draw creates brief current spikes that can trip the BMS protection circuit if the cell voltage sags under load. A new cell at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V — is more susceptible to this than a cell that has completed two or three full charge cycles. After the first full dock cycle the resting voltage climbs to 4.1–4.2V, which gives the BMS enough headroom to absorb those spikes without cutting out.

Base station showing a charging error after fitting the new pack

If the base flashes an error or refuses to charge, the BMS handshake has not completed. This happens when the headset is docked before the connector pins are fully seated. Remove the headset, check the gold contacts on both the headset and cradle for debris, reseat firmly, and wait 60 seconds. If the error persists, power-cycle the base station by unplugging it for 30 seconds — this clears the charge controller's last-state memory and forces a fresh handshake at 3.7V nominal.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BT City headset cuts out mid-call but the base showed a full charge — what's causing it?

The Bluetooth radio and audio processor draw current at the same time, and that combined spike can trip the BMS protection circuit if the cell voltage sags under load. This is most common in the first one to three cycles when resting voltage hasn't yet reached its stable 4.1–4.2V ceiling. Run three complete charge-and-discharge cycles through the base station without interrupting them. After the third cycle, sag-triggered cutouts almost always stop.

Talk time is noticeably shorter than rated for the first few uses — is the battery faulty?

It isn't faulty. A fresh Li-Polymer cell ships at storage voltage, around 3.6V, and doesn't deliver full capacity until the electrodes have gone through several full cycles. Capacity typically improves across the first three to five complete charge cycles. Dock the headset until the base confirms a full charge each time, and don't interrupt cycles early — by cycle five you should be close to the rated 500mAh.

The headset gets noticeably warm during long calls — is that a problem with this cell?

Some warmth is normal. The BT City housing is compact and traps heat from the combined radio and audio draw. What to watch for is heat that builds progressively without levelling off, which can indicate the cell is working harder than normal due to a dirty or corroded contact. Clean the gold contacts on both the headset and base with a dry cloth, reseat the battery connector, and check that the charge cycle completes to a full 4.2V before the next call.
