Why the Z Flip 3 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The Z Flip 3 uses a coulomb counter IC that builds its charge model from the original cell's discharge curve over time. When a new cell goes in, that learned curve no longer matches the physical cell. The fuel gauge keeps predicting from old data, so the displayed percentage drifts from actual charge state. One full slow discharge-charge cycle forces the IC to relearn against the new cell and corrects the reported percentage.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Z Flip 3 after replacement
This shutdown pattern points to a voltage cliff — the cell voltage drops below the processor's minimum rail voltage under modem or display load before the fuel gauge registers empty. It happens most often when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's curve. Run one full slow discharge to 0% and charge to 100% without fast charging enabled. After that cycle, the coulomb counter resets its floor voltage, and the 20–30% cutoff typically disappears.

My Z Flip 3 won't power on at all after sitting in a drawer for months with this new battery installed — is the battery dead?
It's a BMS lockout, not a dead cell. If the phone sat discharged long enough for the cell to drop below 2.5V, the BMS cuts all output to prevent damage. Plug it into a wall charger — not a USB hub — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC will trickle current in to bring the cell above the BMS recovery threshold, after which the phone should boot normally.
Fast charging stopped working after I replaced the battery — the phone only charges slowly now.
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the USB-PD negotiation can fall back to standard 5V charging because the BMS hasn't yet confirmed cell parameters to the charge IC. This is normal on cycle one. Complete one full charge to 100% on a standard charger, then switch to your Samsung fast charger. The BMS handshake completes on the second session and fast charging re-engages at the correct wattage.
The battery percentage on my Z Flip 3 keeps jumping — it shows 45%, then skips to 60%, then drops to 30% within minutes.
Erratic percentage jumps are the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against the new cell's discharge profile. The coulomb counter is still using voltage-to-capacity tables built from the original cell, so small voltage fluctuations under load produce large swings in the reported state of charge. Discharge the phone fully until it shuts itself off, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with fast charging disabled. After that single calibration cycle, the percentage should track steadily.
