Why the 91387 alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The 91387 uses a charge IC calibrated to the chemistry signature of the OEM cell. A new Ni-MH pack has a slightly different internal resistance profile on the first few cycles. The BMS reads this as a low state-of-charge and trips the alarm even when the cell is fully charged. Running one complete charge-discharge cycle recalibrates the threshold. After that single conditioning cycle, the alarm clears and does not return.

Monitor will not power on after the replacement battery sat in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage — typically 1–3% per day at room temperature. If the pack voltage drops below approximately 10.8V, the 91387 BMS enters a protection state and blocks normal startup. Charge the battery in the monitor for a minimum of four hours before attempting to power on. If the monitor still shows no response, place it on charge for a further two hours to allow the charge IC to recover the cell from deep discharge.

The 91387 shuts off unexpectedly during patient monitoring even though the battery indicator showed adequate charge — what is happening?

New Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first 10 charge-discharge cycles, which causes a sharper voltage sag under the load profile of continuous ECG and SpO2 acquisition. The monitor's load-detection circuit reads this sag as a low-voltage cutoff event and shuts down to protect the patient data log. Cycle the battery fully three to five times before placing the monitor in clinical service — internal resistance drops significantly after those initial cycles and the voltage sag falls below the cutoff threshold.
