Fits Tascam DR-1 and GT-R1 portable recorders; replaces OEM BP-L2 battery pack.
3.7V lithium-ion cell rated 2100mAh delivers stable power throughout field recording sessions.
Connector slides straight in with no locking tab; orientation marked on recorder housing.
We bench-tested the BP-L2 on a DR-1 unit; BMS engaged cleanly and held voltage under sustained record-write cycles.
Before a critical recording session, charge fully — unexpected power loss during audio capture corrupts the active file on flash storage.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tascam DR-1 / GT-R1 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-L2)

This 3.7V, 2100mAh Li-ion battery replaces the Tascam BP-L2 cell in the DR-1 portable digital recorder and GT-R1 guitar recorder. Both devices share the same battery bay, connector orientation, and BMS handshake protocol. Capacity is rated at 7.77Wh.

  • DR-1 and GT-R1 compatibility: Both recorders run off the same 3.7V single-cell architecture and use identical BP-L2 form factor with the same three-pin connector. The BMS charge-termination voltage and communication signals are identical across both models.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the DR-1 platform. The BMS accepted a full charge without error flags, held voltage through sustained recording load, and cut off cleanly at the low-voltage threshold without dropping the file system unexpectedly.
  • First charge before a recording session: Digital recorders write audio as a continuous stream to flash storage. A voltage drop mid-write corrupts the active file. Charge this battery to full before the first session — the DR-1's fuel gauge reads accurately only after one complete charge cycle.

Why the DR-1 stops recording mid-session and truncates the file

The DR-1 monitors cell voltage continuously during recording. When voltage drops below approximately 3.2V under load, the recorder halts the write process to protect the file system. If the shutdown is not graceful — meaning the battery collapses faster than the low-battery warning cycle — the current file is truncated at the last written block. A degraded original battery hits this threshold faster because internal resistance climbs with age, causing voltage to sag under the sustained draw of active recording and flash writes.

DR-1 shows "Low Battery" immediately after installing a new cell

A new Li-ion cell shipped in storage state typically sits between 3.5V and 3.7V — below the fully charged 4.2V ceiling. The DR-1 fuel gauge reads state-of-charge relative to a calibrated full-charge reference, so a partially charged new cell triggers a low-battery indicator. This is not a fault with the battery. Connect the DR-1 to USB or the AC adapter and charge fully before use. After one complete charge cycle, the indicator will read correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DR-1 won't turn on after fitting the new BP-L2 — is the battery dead out of the box?

New Li-ion cells ship in a low storage state, often around 3.5V, which can fall below the DR-1's minimum boot voltage. The recorder won't start if cell voltage is too low, even with a new battery installed. Connect the DR-1 to its charger and leave it for a full charge cycle before attempting to power on. Once the cell reaches 4.2V, the unit will boot normally.

My DR-1 cut out mid-recording and now the file won't open — what happened?

The DR-1 halts the active write when cell voltage sags below the recording threshold under load. If the voltage drops faster than the warning cycle completes, the file closes without a proper end-of-file marker, leaving it truncated or unreadable. This happens most often with a depleted or aged cell that can't sustain voltage under the combined draw of recording and flash storage writes. Replace with a fully charged BP-L2 and verify the file system is intact before the next session — check that existing files on the card still play back correctly.

Will the recordings already saved on my SD card survive a battery swap on the DR-1?

Yes. Audio files are written to the SD card's flash storage, which retains data without power. Removing or swapping the battery has no effect on completed recordings. Only data held in RAM — such as any unsaved settings or a recording actively in progress at the moment of power loss — is lost. Completed files remain intact; slot the new battery in and the DR-1 will read the card normally on startup.
