Fits Tascam DR-1 and GT-R1 portable recorders; replaces OEM part BP-L2.
This 3.7V 1800mAh lithium-ion cell powers full recording sessions on handheld field units.
Connector slides straight into the battery door slot; no adapter needed for either model.
We bench-tested this cell in a DR-1 with continuous recording — BMS voltage held stable through the full cycle.
On first use, charge fully before starting a recording session; digital recorders write audio to flash continuously, and a mid-session power loss corrupts the current file.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tascam DR-1 / GT-R1 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-L2)

This is a 3.7V 1800mAh Li-ion replacement for the Tascam BP-L2 battery. It fits the DR-1 portable digital audio recorder and the GT-R1 guitar/bass recorder. Both devices share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and voltage rail.

  • DR-1 and GT-R1 compatibility: Both recorders run on the same 3.7V single-cell Li-ion platform with matching 53 × 34 × 10.90mm form factor. The battery management system communicates the same way across both models — no firmware or connector differences to work around.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the DR-1. The BMS responded correctly to both the recorder's charge termination signal and its low-voltage cutoff threshold — no false trips, no charge rejection.
  • Pre-session charge requirement: Charge this battery fully before a recording session. The DR-1 writes audio data continuously to flash storage. If voltage drops below the recorder's cutoff mid-write, the active file header does not close cleanly and the recording becomes unreadable.

Recording stops mid-session on the DR-1

The DR-1 monitors cell voltage in real time while recording. When voltage sags below approximately 3.2V under load, the recorder halts the write process to protect the flash storage controller. If the battery is already partially depleted before a session starts, this cutoff can trigger sooner than expected — not because the cell is faulty, but because sustained recording draw accelerates voltage sag. Always start long sessions from a full charge to keep cell voltage above the cutoff threshold throughout.

DR-1 won't start after a battery swap

A new or long-stored Li-ion cell can self-discharge to a voltage below the DR-1's boot threshold — typically under 3.0V. The recorder will not power on from this state even though the battery is not damaged. Connect the DR-1 to USB or the AC adapter and leave it charging for at least 15–20 minutes before attempting to power on. Once the cell rises above 3.0V, the recorder will boot and charge normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DR-1 shut off mid-recording and now the file won't open — is the recording gone?

The file is likely corrupt, not missing. When the DR-1 loses power during an active write, the file header doesn't close, so most audio players can't read it. Some recovery tools — like Audacity's raw import or dedicated WAV repair utilities — can reconstruct the audio data from the raw sectors on the SD card. To avoid this, start every session with a fully charged battery so the cell stays above the 3.2V cutoff throughout the write.

I installed this battery and the DR-1 shows the charge indicator cycling without ever completing a full charge — what's wrong?

A freshly installed or deeply discharged Li-ion cell sometimes sits below the threshold the DR-1's internal charger expects. The charger enters a trickle pre-charge loop instead of a full constant-current cycle. Leave the recorder connected to a USB or AC source for 30–40 minutes without interrupting the charge. Once the cell climbs above roughly 3.0V, the charger will step up to its normal charge rate and the indicator will progress correctly.

After replacing the battery in my GT-R1, previously saved recordings are gone — did the swap wipe the card?

Recordings on the GT-R1 live on the SD card, not in the battery or RAM. Removing the battery does not erase card contents. If files are missing after a swap, check that the SD card is fully seated — the card slot can work loose when the battery door is removed. Re-seat the card, power the unit back on, and browse the card directory directly; the files will be there.
