I just put the new battery in and the remote still does nothing — what did I miss?

Nine times out of ten this is a polarity issue. The positive terminal on this Li-Polymer cell has to align with the positive contact inside the remote housing, and on several BN59-013xx models that contact is oriented opposite to what you'd expect. Flip the cell 180 degrees, re-seat it firmly, and test. A correctly seated 3.85V cell will restore the remote immediately with no re-pairing needed.

My remote works but I have to stand right next to the TV now — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily faulty, but likely undercharged out of the box. Li-Polymer cells ship at a partial state of charge for transport safety, and if the voltage is low enough the IR LED fires too weakly to reach the TV sensor at distance. Connect the remote via USB-C and charge it fully, then retest from normal viewing distance. If range is still short after a full charge, confirm the cell is seated flat with no gap at the connector.

The battery drains much faster than the original — could there be a stuck button causing this?
