Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TCL A860 / A998 / W989 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This is a 3.7V, 1500mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the original battery in the TCL A860, A998, W989, and A968 smartphones. These are compact feature-tier handsets where the original cell commonly degrades after 18–24 months of regular use. Capacity is rated at 5.55Wh, matching the original cell specification.
- A860 / A998 / W989 / A968 compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions (64.60 × 43.95 × 5.10mm), voltage rail, and connector pinout. The charge IC on each device accepts the same BMS handshake, so no firmware mismatch occurs on first boot.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and load on compatible hardware. The BMS held cutoff correctly at both ends — no overcharge trip above 4.2V and no low-voltage lockout during normal draw. Voltage at full charge measured stable at 4.18–4.20V.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its charge curve against the new cell before high-current charging begins on an uncalibrated coulomb counter.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on a replacement cell
This is a voltage cliff problem, not a capacity problem. Under modem TX bursts or screen brightness spikes, the cell voltage drops sharply if the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. The phone's low-voltage protection trips before the percentage readout catches up. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the coulomb counter and eliminates most cliff shutdowns.
Phone shows wrong battery percentage after cell swap
The fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve from the old cell. After a replacement, that stored curve no longer matches actual cell chemistry, so the percentage readout drifts — often reading 15–20% high or dropping suddenly near 40%. The fix is one full cycle: drain the phone until it shuts off on its own, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without removing the charger early. After that cycle, the IC rebuilds its curve against the new cell and percentage accuracy stabilises.

Frequently Asked Questions
My TCL A860 won't turn on at all after the new battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?
The BMS locks out when cell voltage drops below roughly 2.5V during storage, which is common after several months on the shelf. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC needs to trickle current into the cell long enough to bring it above the BMS re-enable threshold before the phone will respond. If the screen shows a charging indicator at that point, continue to a full charge before powering on.
The phone feels warm near the battery compartment while charging the new cell — is something wrong?
A new Li-ion cell starts with slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC pushes more voltage across that resistance on the first few cycles. This produces mild warmth — typically a few degrees above ambient — and is normal for the first three to five charge cycles. If the phone becomes hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold, or if warmth persists after five cycles, check that the charging port is clean and that you are using a 5V/1A charger rather than a high-current fast charger. Heat should reduce noticeably once the cell completes its formation cycles.
Fast charging stopped working after I swapped the battery on my TCL A998 — it only trickle charges now.
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the BMS on the replacement cell may not immediately accept the handshake from the phone's charge protocol, causing the charge IC to fall back to standard 5V/0.5A trickle mode as a safety default. Complete one full charge at trickle speed without interrupting it, then disconnect and allow the phone to sit at 100% for two minutes before reconnecting the charger. On the second cycle the protocol negotiation typically completes and fast charge resumes at normal current.
