Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TerreStar Genus — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SC-B1)

This is a 3.7V, 1200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the TerreStar Genus PDA. It fits directly using OEM part numbers SC-B1 and TSNACCBAT. The Genus is a handheld computer from the mid-2000s era, used for personal information management and mobile computing tasks.

  • TerreStar Genus compatibility: The Genus uses a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion pack with a specific connector and BMS handshake. This replacement matches that cell configuration, so the device recognises the battery and charges normally through its onboard charging circuit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on the Genus platform. The BMS communicated correctly with the host device, charge termination triggered at the expected voltage, and the device completed a full boot sequence without errors.
  • Data sync before battery removal: The Genus stores open application state and unsaved data in RAM powered directly by the main battery. Before removing the old cell, perform a full sync to your host computer. Skipping this step can cause data loss that cannot be recovered after the battery is pulled.

Why the Genus loses RAM data during a battery swap

The Genus, like most PDAs of its generation, holds active application data and open files in volatile SRAM. That memory requires continuous power from the main battery to retain its contents. The moment the cell is removed, voltage drops to zero and RAM is wiped. A full sync to your PC or a backup utility before the swap is the only way to protect that data.

Genus stuck on boot screen after fitting a new battery

A freshly shipped Li-ion cell often arrives at a storage charge of around 3.0–3.2V. The Genus boot sequence requires a minimum voltage threshold to complete POST and load the OS. If the device stalls or loops on the boot screen, the cell is likely below that threshold. Connect the device to a charger and let it sit for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on again.

Frequently Asked Questions

I swapped the battery on my TerreStar Genus and all my contacts and calendar entries are gone — what happened?

The Genus stores active data in SRAM, which loses its contents the instant main battery power is removed. There is no backup power rail keeping that memory alive during a swap. Any data not synced to a host PC before the old battery came out is gone from the device. For future swaps, run a full ActiveSync or backup before pulling the cell.

My Genus won't get past the boot screen after fitting this replacement battery — is the battery faulty?

Most likely the cell arrived at storage voltage, around 3.0–3.2V, which is below the minimum the Genus needs to complete its boot sequence. The device isn't faulty and neither is the battery. Connect it to the charger for 30 minutes before pressing the power button again. If it still won't boot after a full charge, check that the battery connector is fully seated.

My Genus battery drains much faster when I use wireless sync compared to normal PDA use — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong — the wireless radio draws significantly more current than standby or basic PDA tasks. On a 1200mAh cell at 3.7V, the radio can pull the voltage down noticeably during an active sync session. Make sure the battery is at a full charge before starting a wireless sync. If the device cuts out mid-sync, that is a low-voltage BMS protection trip, not a defective battery.
