Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Testo 876 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (0515 0116)
This 3.7V, 6800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Testo 876 thermal imaging camera. It fits the 876 directly and uses the same connector and BMS handshake as the original. Capacity is sourced from the product data — 25.16Wh total energy.
- Testo 876 compatibility: The 876 uses a single-cell 3.7V architecture with a proprietary BMS handshake over the pack's communication line. This replacement matches that voltage rail and data line protocol, so the camera's battery menu reads state-of-charge correctly without fault codes.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the pack through the 876's initialisation sequence and monitored BMS response during detector array power-up — the brief current spike when the IR sensor initialises did not trip the protection circuit. Cell voltage held stable across repeated cold-start cycles.
- First-use calibration cycle: After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before heading into the field. The 876 maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session.
Testo 876 shutting down mid-survey despite showing charge remaining
The 876's IR detector draws a sharp current spike each time it re-initialises after a standby timeout. If the cell voltage has sagged slightly under sustained load, this spike can push the pack's BMS protection threshold — triggering an abrupt shutdown even when the display shows 30–40% remaining. The root cause is voltage sag under transient load, not actual capacity depletion. Replacing an aged pack with a fresh 6800mAh cell raises the headroom between operating voltage and the BMS cutoff floor, eliminating false shutdowns.
Testo 876 not recognising a new pack after the camera sat unused for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge over storage, and if the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell the BMS enters a low-voltage lockout state to prevent damage. In this state, the 876 may show no battery icon or refuse to power on even after placing the pack on charge. Connect the camera to its official charger and leave it for at least 60 minutes without interruption — the charger applies a trickle current that nudges the cell voltage above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.8V, at which point normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Testo 876 powers on fine but shuts down the moment I start a USB data transfer to a PC — is this the battery?
Yes — USB data transfer adds a combined load on top of the camera's active sensor draw, and an aged or partially depleted pack can't hold voltage under that combined current. The BMS cuts the output to protect the cell. Charge the pack fully before any transfer session, and check that the USB cable is data-grade, not charge-only — a high-resistance cable increases draw-side voltage drop and makes the shutdown more likely. If the issue continues with a fresh pack at full charge, the cell itself has degraded past useful capacity.
The battery percentage on my Testo 876 jumps erratically at reboot — reads 80%, shuts off, then shows 20% after restart.
The 876's percentage indicator is calibrated against the original OEM cell's voltage-discharge curve. A new pack — or a degraded old one — with a slightly different curve causes the display to read inconsistent values at the same actual state of charge. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through normal field use, then recharge to 100% and let the camera sit powered on for five minutes without use. This allows the instrument's voltage-threshold indicator to re-anchor its readings to the new cell's actual resting voltage.
Testo 876 readings drift and log incorrect data partway through a long survey session — camera stays on but values reset.
This is a voltage dropout issue, not a full shutdown. Under sustained IR sensor load during a long session, a weakened cell voltage sags below the threshold the 876's processor needs for stable measurement output — the sensor keeps running but the data pipeline resets. The camera stays on because the BMS hasn't hit hard cutoff, but the measurement circuit loses its reference point. Replace the pack and confirm open-circuit voltage reads at least 3.7V before deployment by checking it on a multimeter immediately after a full charge.
