Fits Canon EOS cameras with LP-E6 battery slots; replaces OEM LP-E6 and LP-E6N cells.
7.4V, 2000mAh capacity delivers full power to Canon DSLRs and mirrorless bodies during studio or field work.
Connector type matches Canon LP-E6 contact layout; slides into camera battery chamber with standard orientation and locking tab.
We bench-tested this cell in a Canon 5D body at full charge; BMS accepted the new pack on first insertion with no fault delay.
On first use, run one full charge cycle inside the camera body before shooting — Canon bodies require an internal charge handshake to display accurate battery remaining percentage on the LCD.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tether Tools Air Direct — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 7.4V, 2000mAh Li-ion cell replaces the LP-E6 format battery used in the Tether Tools Air Direct wireless tethering system. The Air Direct powers Canon DSLRs and mirrorless bodies — including the 5D, 6D, 7D, and R5 series — during tethered shooting sessions. Keep a charged spare in your bag so a depleted cell doesn't cut a shoot short.

  • Canon LP-E6 slot compatibility: The Air Direct draws from a standard LP-E6 bay, sharing the same voltage rail and connector geometry as Canon's native pack. Any body that runs LP-E6 cells can accept this replacement without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Air Direct unit under a continuous data-transfer load. The BMS held voltage above the cutoff threshold and showed no false-low warnings during mid-cycle reads.
  • First-install charge cycle: On first use, seat the cell in an OEM LP-E6 compatible charger and run one full charge before inserting it into the Air Direct. Some Canon BMS firmware requires a complete charge cycle from an external charger to calibrate the battery-remaining display accurately.

Why the Air Direct shows a dead-battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell

Canon's BMS maps battery percentage against a discharge curve it stores from prior charge cycles. A fresh third-party cell has no cycle history in that memory, so the firmware can misread mid-range voltage as critically low. The fix is straightforward: charge the replacement fully via an OEM-compatible external charger before first use. After one or two complete charge-discharge cycles inside the Air Direct, the indicator typically stabilises and tracks accurately.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the connected Canon body display

When a new cell's discharge curve doesn't map exactly to the reference curve stored in camera firmware, the percentage readout can skip — showing 80%, then 60%, then 75% within minutes. This is a firmware interpolation issue, not a cell fault. The cell voltage itself remains stable; only the reported figure is unreliable. Run two full charge-discharge cycles and the displayed percentage will track the actual cell state with much less variance.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Air Direct is showing "no battery" even though I just charged this replacement — what's wrong?

Canon's authentication handshake checks for a minimum voltage threshold before the unit acknowledges a cell. If the replacement arrived partially discharged from storage, it can fall below that threshold and trigger a no-battery flag. Remove the cell, charge it fully in an OEM-compatible LP-E6 charger until the charger light goes green, then reinsert. That single full charge is usually enough for the unit to recognise the cell.

My shot count seems much lower than what I was getting with the OEM pack — is the replacement draining faster?

The Air Direct adds its own wireless-transmission draw on top of whatever the Canon body is pulling for the EVF, continuous AF, and image stabilisation. Combined, those loads push actual current draw well above a simple still-capture baseline. The 2000mAh capacity is correct per spec — the draw profile of tethered wireless operation is just higher than standalone shooting. Switch off in-body stabilisation when shooting static studio subjects on a tripod to reduce the load and extend the charge noticeably.

Flash isn't fully recycling between shots after about an hour of use — is this a battery issue?

Yes. Flash capacitor recharge is one of the highest instantaneous current draws a camera system puts on a cell. As the cell moves past roughly 50% state of charge, internal resistance rises and peak current delivery drops — so the capacitor takes longer to reach full charge between pops. This isn't a fault; it's normal electrochemistry. Keep a second charged cell ready to swap in when recycle lag starts, and recharge the depleted cell above 3.7V per cell (7.4V total) before storing it.
