Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SJCAM DX 288812 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SJ4000B)

This is a 3.7V, 900mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the SJCAM DX 288812 and DX 288813 action cameras, as well as the Sports Cam W7 and W8 models. It replaces OEM part numbers SJ4000B and GP200. Dimensions are 32.77 × 29.16 × 10.89mm — match these against your existing cell before ordering.

  • Compatible across the DX 288812 family: These models share the same physical cell format, 3.7V nominal voltage rail, and connector pinout. A single cell specification covers the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the DX 288812 body. The BMS accepted the cell, voltage read correctly at the terminals, and the camera body reported charge status without error flags.
  • First-use charge cycle on the DX 288812: Run the first full charge inside the camera body using the OEM cable — not a generic USB charger. Some SJCAM bodies need one in-camera charge cycle before the battery-remaining indicator maps correctly to the new cell's discharge curve.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the DX 288812 display

SJCAM's battery indicator maps voltage thresholds to display segments calibrated around the original cell's discharge curve. A new replacement cell can have a slightly different discharge profile, causing the indicator to skip or jump between levels mid-use. This is a firmware mapping issue, not a fault with the cell itself. One complete charge-and-discharge cycle inside the camera body usually re-anchors the thresholds — after that, the indicator tracks the charge level accurately.

DX 288812 showing dead battery icon on a replacement cell that still has charge

If the camera cuts off or shows a dead cell icon before the battery is genuinely depleted, the BMS is reading the resting voltage and applying the OEM low-voltage cutoff threshold. A replacement cell resting below 3.5V after shipping can trigger this even when the cell has usable capacity remaining. Place the cell in the camera and charge fully before first use — do not attempt to power on from a shipped state. Once the cell reads at or above 3.7V at the terminals, the cutoff error clears and the camera powers normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SJCAM DX 288812 says "no battery" when I insert the new cell — is it dead on arrival?

It's almost always the BMS authentication check, not a dead cell. The camera reads resting voltage on insertion, and a cell that's dropped below 3.5V during shipping triggers a rejection flag before you've even pressed power. Place the cell in the camera, connect the OEM USB cable, and run one full charge cycle through the camera body. After that charge, the camera accepts the cell and powers on normally.

The shot count on my DX 288812 dropped way below what I'd expect from a 900mAh cell — what's happening?

Continuous video recording on this camera draws from the sensor, processor, and image stabilisation simultaneously — that combined load pulls significantly more current than the spec shot count assumes. Cold ambient temperatures compound this by increasing internal resistance and reducing available capacity from the rated 900mAh. This isn't a fault; it's normal under sustained high-draw conditions. Switch to shorter recording intervals and let the body cool between clips to recover usable capacity per session.

The DX 288812 body gets noticeably warm during video recording and then cuts out — is that the battery overheating?

The heat comes primarily from the sensor and image processor, not the cell itself, but the camera's thermal protection circuit monitors overall body temperature and will trigger a shutdown to protect the electronics. At that point the battery still has charge — the cutoff is thermal, not voltage-based. Reduce clip length, avoid direct sunlight on the body during recording, and check that the battery contact pins are clean and making full contact so resistance at the terminals isn't adding to the heat load.
