Fits Topcon FC-236 and FC-336 field controllers; replaces OEM part 60991.
3.7V 6800mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full shift capacity for remote survey data collection.
Connector seats vertically into battery slot with positive terminal facing outward; locking tab engages on insertion.
We cycled this pack on FC-236 hardware; BMS accepted charge current without fault codes or thermal throttle.
On first deployment, run a full cradle charge cycle before field use — the scan trigger and wireless radio draw peak inrush current together, and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS cutoff during rapid barcode burst scanning.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Topcon FC-236 / FC-336 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (60991)

This 3.7V 6800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM 60991 pack in the Topcon FC-236 and FC-336 field controllers. These are ruggedised handheld data collectors used in survey and construction work, often running full shifts away from any power source. The cell matches the original voltage rail and connector so the device powers on without configuration changes.

  • FC-236 and FC-336 compatibility: Both controllers share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why a single 60991-spec pack covers both models. The voltage rail sits at 3.7V nominal across the platform.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the FC-236 bench unit. The BMS communicated state-of-charge correctly to the OS, and the charge controller accepted the pack without fault codes on first insertion.
  • Field swap tip for survey use: If you are mid-job with active data files open, save and close your project before pulling the old pack. The FC-236 holds a brief capacitor reserve, but an unexpected drop during a write operation can corrupt the active job file.

Why the FC-236 reports incorrect battery percentage after a pack swap

The FC-236 tracks state-of-charge through a fuel gauge IC that learns discharge curves over time. When a new pack goes in, the gauge has no calibration history for that cell, so it interpolates from the last known data — which belongs to the old battery. This causes the percentage readout to jump or read incorrectly for the first one to two full cycles. Run the new pack from a full charge down to the automatic low-battery cutoff, then charge it fully again. After one complete cycle the fuel gauge recalibrates and the readout stabilises.

FC-236 shutting down mid-session despite battery showing charge

This usually points to a BMS under-voltage trip rather than actual cell depletion. The FC-236 draws a surge current when writing data to storage or refreshing the GPS fix, and if the cell voltage dips below the BMS cutoff threshold under that load, the pack disconnects even though the resting voltage reads fine. A fresh pack that has not been through a full charge cycle has lower electrolyte conductivity and is more prone to this on first use. Charge the replacement pack to 100% before the first field session — confirmed full charge on the FC-236 is indicated by a solid green charge LED, not just the OS percentage reaching 100.

Frequently Asked Questions

My FC-236 shut down mid-survey even though it showed 40% battery — is the new pack faulty?

Almost certainly not faulty. The FC-236's BMS trips on instantaneous voltage sag, not state-of-charge — a GPS fix refresh or a data write can pull enough current to drop the cell voltage below the cutoff threshold even when charge percentage looks healthy. This is most common when the new pack has not yet had a full charge cycle, because cell conductivity is lower straight out of the box. Charge the pack to 100% (wait for the solid green LED on the device) before your next session and the sag trips will stop.

The FC-236 is losing its wireless data link to the total station during rapid data logging — could this be the battery?

Yes. When the device is logging fast and transmitting over Bluetooth simultaneously, the combined inrush from the radio and the storage write can cause a brief voltage sag that drops the wireless stack below its minimum operating threshold, breaking the link. This happens more often with a new pack that has not been conditioned or with a pack that is below 20% charge. Keep the replacement fully charged before high-frequency logging sessions and the drop-outs will clear up.

The FC-236 cradle is showing a charging fault on the new 60991 pack — what's causing it?

Cradle charging errors on a new pack are almost always a contact resistance issue, not a cell fault. The dock contacts on the FC-236 cradle oxidise with regular use, and a new pack with fresh metal contacts can actually trigger a higher resistance reading than the worn-in original. Pull the pack out, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly until you feel it click, and check that all three contacts are flush. The fault light should clear within 30 seconds of a clean connection.
