Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

TORO Flex Force Power L135 / L324 Series — 60V Li-ion Replacement Battery (88620)
This is a 60V Li-ion battery with 7500mAh capacity (450Wh) for TORO Flex Force Power and Recycler series cordless mowers. It replaces OEM part numbers 88620, 88625, 88640, 88650, 88660, and 88675. Compatible models include the Flex Force Power L135, Flex Force Power L324, Stripe Dual-Blades Self-Propelled Mower, Recycler Personal Pace Auto-Drive, and 84 additional TORO cordless mower platforms.
- Flex Force platform compatibility: All listed models share the same 60V battery rail, physical housing, and BMS communication protocol. One pack covers the full Flex Force and Recycler lineup without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through simulated blade-motor inrush loads on a 60V test rig. The BMS held under repeated high-draw cycles and cut off cleanly at the correct low-cell threshold without false trips.
- Cold-weather start preparation: Before the first cut of the season, bring the battery indoors overnight if temperatures are below 10°C. Cold Li-ion cells carry higher internal resistance, and the blade motor's inrush current on startup can trip the BMS before the pack has a chance to warm up.
BMS cutoff on thick-grass and wet-grass blade load
Wet or dense grass increases blade drag sharply. The motor draws a sustained high current that can exceed the BMS protection threshold even when the pack is not low on charge. When the BMS trips, the mower cuts out and the battery may flash a fault LED. Let the pack sit for two minutes — the BMS resets thermally, not by voltage. If cutouts are frequent, slow your mowing pace or reduce the deck cutting height in one increment to lower the motor load.
Charger showing fault light after mower sat unused all winter
A Li-ion pack stored in a cold garage over winter can self-discharge below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically under 2.5V per cell. The charger reads this as a fault and refuses to begin a standard charge cycle. Some TORO chargers include a recovery or "wake" mode activated by holding the charge button for five seconds. If yours does not, a compatible Li-ion charger with a trickle recovery function can bring the pack back up to 3.0V per cell, at which point the standard charger will accept it.

Frequently Asked Questions
My TORO Flex Force mower cuts out halfway through a row then starts again after a minute — is the battery faulty?
This is thermal protection triggering, not a faulty pack. When blade load runs high — long grass, wet conditions, or a full-width cut — the motor draws sustained current and the BMS cuts power to protect the cells. The pack resets once internal temperature drops. Allow a five-minute cooldown before restarting, and reduce cutting width or deck height if it keeps happening on the same lawn conditions.
The charger won't accept the battery after it sat in the shed over winter — the light just flashes red immediately.
The pack has likely self-discharged below the charger's acceptance voltage over the storage period. TORO chargers reject packs below roughly 2.5V per cell to prevent unsafe charging of deeply depleted cells. Check whether your charger has a recovery mode — on some models, holding the charge button for five seconds activates a low-current wake cycle. If not, a Li-ion charger with trickle recovery can bring cells back above 3.0V per cell, after which the standard charger will accept the pack normally.
This new battery feels noticeably warmer than my old one did during the first few cuts — should I be concerned?
New cells go through a conditioning phase over the first four to five charge and discharge cycles. During this period, internal resistance is slightly higher than it will be once the cells settle, which produces a little more heat under load. If the pack is warm to the touch but not hot, and the mower is running normally, this is expected behaviour. If the casing becomes too hot to hold or the BMS trips repeatedly before the fifth cycle, stop use and check that the battery terminals are fully seated in the mower deck socket.
