Fits Velleman APS230 portable test equipment; replaces OEM part BPAPS230.
6V 1800mAh Ni-MH pack delivers 10.8Wh for sustained sensor and probe operation in field surveying without voltage sag.
Connector slides into battery bay with positive contact on right; locking tab seats flush against equipment housing.
We bench-tested this pack across full discharge cycles; BMS showed clean voltage hold under continuous measurement load before cutoff threshold.
After installation, power on the APS230 and run a full self-test through the instrument menu before field deployment — the device maps battery voltage during startup, and skipping this step triggers false low-battery warnings during your first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Velleman APS230 — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BPAPS230)

This is a 6V 1800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Velleman APS230 portable power supply unit. It fits directly into the APS230 and restores the instrument for field testing and measurement work. Capacity matches the original BPAPS230 specification at 10.8Wh.

  • APS230 platform fit: The APS230 uses a single sealed Ni-MH pack on a fixed 6V rail. This replacement matches that rail voltage and physical footprint — 99.70 x 42.80 x 15.20mm — so the connector seats correctly and the charge circuit reads the pack as expected.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the pack through the APS230 charge cycle and monitored BMS response during probe initialisation. The pack held voltage above the low-battery cutoff threshold during the initial current draw spike at power-up.
  • Instrument calibration after install: After fitting the new pack, run a full calibration cycle through the APS230 instrument menu before field deployment. The unit maps battery state during that cycle — skipping it causes premature low-battery warnings during the first measurement session even when the pack is fully charged.

BMS lockout after the APS230 sits unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge continuously, even in storage. If the APS230 sits unused for several months, the pack voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically under 4.8V for a 6V Ni-MH pack. At that point the BMS enters a protective lockout and the instrument will not power on or accept a standard charge. A slow trickle charge at 50–100mA for several hours can bring cell voltage back above the recovery threshold before a normal charge cycle is attempted.

Voltage dropout during a sustained logging session causing readings to reset

Under continuous sensor load, an aged or partially discharged Ni-MH pack can sag below the APS230's voltage floor mid-session. The instrument interprets this as a power interruption and resets the active logging buffer. This is not a firmware fault — it is a cell capacity issue. Check resting pack voltage after a full charge; a healthy 6V Ni-MH pack should read 7.0–7.2V off the charger. Anything below 6.5V at rest indicates a cell that will not sustain the load.

Frequently Asked Questions

The APS230 powers on fine but shuts off the moment the probe initialises — why?

Probe initialisation pulls a brief current spike that can exceed the BMS cutoff threshold on a marginal pack. We saw this on the bench with a partially discharged cell — the BMS tripped within two seconds of probe power-up. Fit a fully charged pack and confirm resting voltage reads above 6.5V before connecting the probe module.

The APS230 won't charge at all after sitting in storage for several months — is the battery dead?

Not necessarily. Ni-MH cells self-discharge in storage, and if voltage dropped below roughly 4.8V the BMS entered protective lockout. A standard charger will not wake it from that state. Apply a slow trickle charge at 50–100mA for two to four hours, then attempt a normal charge cycle — most packs recover once cell voltage climbs back above the BMS recovery floor.

The battery percentage jumps around on reboot after I replaced the pack — is the new cell faulty?

The APS230's voltage-based state indicator re-baselines to a new cell's charge curve after replacement. On the first few power cycles, the reading can appear inconsistent until the instrument correlates its thresholds to the new pack's actual voltage steps. Run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu and complete at least one full charge-discharge cycle — the display stabilises after the unit has mapped the new pack's behaviour.
