Fits Vileda 488A and A3 cordless vacuums, replaces OEM battery pack.
14.4V and 2000mAh Ni-MH pack delivers sustained motor voltage under carpet load without sag cutoff.
Slides into the battery slot with straight connector alignment; locking tab seats flush on both models.
Bench testing showed stable voltage delivery under full motor draw with no BMS dropout on first cycle.
Do not leave this vacuum on the charging dock continuously — Ni-MH packs fade faster under perpetual trickle charge than when charged only after full depletion.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vileda 488A / A3 — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 14.4V 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Vileda 488A and A3 cordless vacuum cleaners. It slots into the same battery bay as the original and connects to the same charging circuit. When the original cell loses capacity and the vacuum no longer holds a useful charge, this is the direct swap.

  • 488A and A3 compatibility: Both models run the same 14.4V power rail, use the same battery bay dimensions, and share the same connector orientation — one battery covers both platforms without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a 488A unit. The BMS accepted the charge handshake immediately, and discharge current held steady under motor load without triggering overcurrent cutoff.
  • Dock charging habit on the 488A: Leaving a Ni-MH cell on continuous dock charge accelerates capacity fade. Charge the vacuum fully, then remove it from the dock. Reconnect only when the battery is depleted. This matters more for Ni-MH chemistry than lithium cells.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low on the 488A

This happens when the motor draws more current than the battery can deliver at its present state of charge, causing voltage to sag under load before the cell is actually depleted. On the 488A, a partially blocked filter makes this worse — restricted airflow forces the motor to work harder, pulling higher current and triggering voltage sag earlier. The battery indicator reads state of charge at rest, not under load, so it lags behind what you feel in suction. Clean the filter first, then test — if sag continues, the cell is the cause.

Motor cuts out mid-use and then recovers after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When sustained suction restriction forces the motor to draw above the BMS threshold — typically from a blocked filter or full dustbin — the protection circuit opens and cuts power. The pause allows the BMS to reset and the cell temperature to stabilise. Clear the filter and empty the bin before assuming the battery is faulty. If trips continue on a clean, unrestricted machine, the replacement cell's BMS threshold may need a full charge cycle to recalibrate — charge to 100% and retest.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Vileda 488A runs for a very short time even after a full charge — is the filter causing it?

Yes, a blocked filter is often the first cause. Restricted airflow makes the motor work harder, pulling more current than rated and draining the cell faster. Clean or replace the filter before concluding the battery is at fault. If runtime improves noticeably after cleaning, the filter was the cause — not the cell.

I left my 488A on the charging dock for several weeks and now it barely holds a charge — can it recover?

Continuous dock charging on a Ni-MH cell causes trickle charge damage that degrades capacity over time, and it rarely fully recovers. A replacement cell is the fix at that point. Going forward, charge to full, remove from the dock, and only return when the battery is depleted — this is the single most effective habit change for Ni-MH longevity on cordless vacuums.

The replacement battery won't charge on my 488A — the charger light doesn't respond at all. What's wrong?

Some 488A chargers check for a minimum voltage from the battery before starting a charge cycle. If a deeply discharged Ni-MH cell sits below roughly 9–10V, the charger reads it as a fault and refuses to engage. Try a brief trickle charge using a compatible external Ni-MH charger set to 0.1C to bring the cell above that threshold, then return it to the dock charger.
