Fits Vodafone 830, 830i, V830, and VF830 models; replaces OEM part HB5B2 and HB5B2H.
3.7V and 1100mAh lithium-ion cell matches original voltage and capacity for normal phone operation.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a positive tab that locks against the spring contact.
We charged this cell in a Vodafone 830 bench unit; BMS accepted the new pack on first insert with no fault codes.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle so the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vodafone 830 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HB5B2)

This 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original HB5B2 battery in the Vodafone 830, 830i, V830, and VF830 smartphones. It fits the same slot and connector as the factory cell. Capacity is 1100mAh — identical to the original OEM specification.

  • 830 and 830i compatibility: The 830, 830i, V830, and VF830 all share the same battery bay dimensions and connector pinout. The HB5B2 cell fits each variant without modification because Vodafone used a common battery platform across this model range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the 830 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without errors, and the charge IC completed a full cycle to 4.2V without interruption.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle before normal use. The fuel gauge IC calibrates its discharge curve on that first cycle — skipping it on a new high-impedance cell can cause the OS to misread remaining capacity by a significant margin.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Vodafone 830 after a cell swap

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. A new cell has a different internal resistance profile, so the voltage drops faster under modem or screen load than the IC expects. The phone interprets that voltage sag as a critically low state and shuts down — even though the cell still has usable charge. One full discharge-charge cycle with the new cell resets the coulomb counter and aligns the IC to the new curve.

OS reporting wrong battery percentage after fitting the HB5B2

The Android fuel gauge IC on the 830 stores a learned discharge model from the old cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored model no longer matches actual cell behaviour, so percentage readings jump or stall at incorrect values. The fix is to let the phone discharge fully to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this forces the IC to rewrite its reference curve against the new cell. After that single cycle, percentage tracking stabilises.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Vodafone 830 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for months — is the cell dead?

It's likely a BMS lockout. If the cell discharged below 2.5V in storage, the battery management system cuts output to prevent cell damage and the phone won't receive enough voltage to boot. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing anything. If the cell voltage recovers above the BMS threshold, the charge IC will resume and the phone will show a charging indicator.

Fast charging stopped working the first time I charged the HB5B2 — it only trickle charges now.

On the first cycle with a new cell, the charge IC runs a conditioning pass at low current to assess cell impedance before accepting higher charge rates. This is normal behaviour and not a fault with the cell. Disconnect the charger fully, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect — the IC reinitialises and will often step up to the standard charge rate on the second handshake. If it persists beyond the first full cycle, check that the battery connector is fully seated, as a loose pin causes the IC to default to safe trickle mode.

The Vodafone 830 feels warm near the battery during the first few charges with the new cell — should I be concerned?

A new Li-ion cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC pushes slightly more voltage across that resistance in early cycles, generating mild heat. This is expected on cycles one and two and reduces as the cell conditions. If the back of the phone becomes hot to the touch — not just warm — remove it from the charger and check that the replacement cell dimensions match the HB5B2 spec: 44.00 x 38.00 x 5.20mm. An oversized cell compressed in the bay will generate abnormal heat.
