Fits ZTE Axon Max C2016 and replaces OEM battery part number Li3940T44P8h907043.
This 3.85V 4000mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers rated capacity to restore full operating runtime on the Axon Max platform.
Connector slides straight into the existing battery slot with no modifications or adapter required.
We charged through a full cycle on the bench — the BMS accepted standard USB input without lockout or cutoff errors.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle to let the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell discharge curve before high-current charging resumes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ZTE Axon Max C2016 Series — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (Li3940T44P8h907043)

This 3.85V 4000mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces part number Li3940T44P8h907043 in the ZTE Axon Max C2016, Axon Max C2016 Dual SIM, Axon 7 Max, and Axon 7 Max C2017. It fits the original battery bay without modification. Capacity is 15.4Wh, matching the factory specification.

  • Axon Max and Axon 7 Max compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The 88.80 × 69.50 × 4.50mm cell fits all listed variants without adapter or rewiring.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the Axon Max platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and the charge IC stepped through trickle, CC, and CV phases correctly at each stage.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes into an uncalibrated state.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Axon Max after a cell swap

The Axon Max fuel gauge IC stores a discharge model calibrated to the original cell. A new cell with a different internal resistance profile hits a voltage cliff at a different state of charge than the IC expects. When the modem, screen, or GPS pulls a high current spike, the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the reported percentage reads 20–30%. One full slow discharge-charge cycle rewrites the coulomb counter baseline and pushes the shutdown point back to the correct level.

USB fast charge not activating on the first cycle after replacement

ZTE's charge controller runs a handshake check before enabling fast charge. On the first cycle with a new cell, the BMS reports an uncalibrated state and the controller defaults to standard 5V charging as a precaution. This is not a fault — it clears after the first complete charge cycle. Confirm fast charge is active by checking the charging indicator in Settings → Battery after the second full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My ZTE Axon Max C2016 shows 25% battery left then shuts off without warning — is the new cell faulty?

The cell is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC on the Axon Max was calibrated to your original cell's voltage curve, and the new cell hits its BMS cutoff voltage at a different state of charge. The percentage display and the actual cutoff point are out of sync. Run one full discharge down to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% at standard rate — this resets the coulomb counter and pushes the shutdown point back to where it should be.

The Axon Max won't power on after sitting in a drawer for several months — did the battery fully die?

Long storage at low charge drains a Li-Polymer cell below 2.5V per cell, which triggers BMS lockout to prevent damage. The phone appears completely dead because the BMS blocks output voltage until the cell recovers. Plug into a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 30–45 minutes without attempting to power on. Most BMS units on this platform exit lockout once the cell climbs above 3.0V and the phone will show a low-battery screen before booting.

Battery percentage on the Axon Max is jumping around erratically — reading 60%, then 45%, then 55% within minutes of each other?

Erratic percentage swings point to the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against a new cell it has not yet mapped. The IC uses stored impedance data from the old cell to estimate state of charge, and the mismatch causes the algorithm to correct and overcorrect. This settles after two or three full discharge-charge cycles at standard rate. If the jumping continues past three cycles, check that the battery connector is fully seated — a loose pin causes voltage reading noise that the fuel gauge cannot filter out.
