Fits ZTE U288G smartphones, replacing the original 3.7V 1700mAh lithium-ion battery that no longer holds adequate charge for daily use.
3.7V and 1700mAh (6.29Wh) matches the original cell, restoring the phone's runtime capacity and voltage stability under modem and screen load.
Connector type and form factor are identical to the original U288G cell; physical fit confirmed on the hardware slot without modification needed.
We ran a full discharge cycle on the bench with the U288G fuel gauge IC active; BMS handed off properly to the phone's coulomb counter on first insertion.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle — this lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ZTE U288G — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (U288G)

This is a 3.7V 1700mAh Li-ion battery for the ZTE U288G smartphone. It replaces a degraded original cell that no longer holds enough charge for calls, messaging, and daily app use. Capacity is rated at 6.29Wh and matches the original voltage rail exactly.

  • U288G platform fit: The U288G uses a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion configuration with a fixed connector orientation and BMS handshake tied to that voltage rail. A cell outside that spec trips the charge IC and prevents a full charge cycle from completing.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the U288G platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the charge IC completed a full constant-current to constant-voltage charge sequence without cutoff errors.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell.

Why the U288G reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The U288G uses a fuel gauge IC that builds its state-of-charge model against the discharge curve of the original cell. When you install a new cell, that stored curve no longer matches reality. The gauge will report percentages based on old data until it runs at least one full cycle. Run the phone from 100% down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — after that cycle the gauge recalibrates against the new cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still using a calibration map from a worn cell. The old cell's voltage floor sat higher than a fresh cell's, so the gauge reads 20–30% when the new cell is actually near depletion under modem or screen load. The voltage sags below the BMS cutoff threshold before the gauge reaches zero. One full discharge-to-shutdown and uninterrupted recharge to 100% resets the coulomb counter and stops premature shutoffs.

Frequently Asked Questions

The U288G won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?

Likely not dead — the BMS has locked out the cell because it discharged below 2.5V during storage. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button; the charge IC needs to trickle current into the cell before the BMS will re-initialise and allow a normal boot. If the charging indicator appears at any point, the recovery is working. Once the indicator shows, let it charge to at least 3.6V before powering on.

Fast charging stopped working the first time I charged the U288G after swapping the battery — why?

The proprietary charge protocol negotiation on the U288G happens at the start of each new charge session, and on the first cycle with a fresh cell the BMS can reject the high-current handshake as a precaution. Unplug the charger, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect — this forces a fresh protocol negotiation. If fast charge still doesn't engage, complete one full standard charge cycle first; after that cycle the BMS typically accepts the fast charge handshake on the next session.

The battery percentage on the U288G is jumping around erratically — 60% one minute, then 45% the next without any heavy use.

The fuel gauge IC is recalibrating its coulomb counter against the new cell's impedance and discharge curve, which it hasn't mapped yet. Erratic jumps are normal for the first one to three cycles after a cell replacement. Run the phone from a full charge down to automatic shutdown and recharge to 100% without interruption — repeat this once or twice and the gauge stabilises. After two full cycles, percentage should track steadily within a few percent of actual remaining capacity.
