Fits Appareo Stratus 2, Stratus 3, and Stratus 2S; replaces OEM part 153010-000038 and 11-16408.
3.7V 5300mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers 19.61Wh to sustain real-time weather and traffic display during flight operations.
Connector seats flush into the battery slot with a single locking tab; verify orientation before seating to avoid contact damage.
We ran this cell through five full discharge cycles on Stratus 2 hardware; BMS voltage regulation held steady through active GPS and display load.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before flight — GPS performs a cold start after power interruption that takes 5–10 minutes for first fix.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Appareo Stratus 2 / 2S / 3 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (153010-000038)

This 3.7V 5300mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Appareo Stratus 2, Stratus 2S, and Stratus 3 portable ADS-B receivers. These units deliver real-time weather, traffic, and terrain data to pilots via a connected tablet or EFB app. Fit the correct cell and the Stratus resumes normal ADS-B and GPS operation without configuration changes.

  • Stratus 2, 2S, and 3 compatibility: All three models share the same physical cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the 3.7V voltage rail and 5300mAh capacity requirement are identical across the series, so one cell covers all three variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a Stratus 2 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and low-voltage cutoff engaged at the expected threshold without premature shutdown.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after power interruption: After fitting this cell, power the Stratus fully on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before your first flight. A full power removal clears the almanac cache, so the first fix after swap takes 5–10 minutes — subsequent warm starts return to under a minute.

Stratus shutting off without warning at low battery

The Stratus battery indicator reads remaining charge from a voltage curve stored in firmware. When a degraded or replaced cell has a slightly different discharge curve, the firmware can misread remaining capacity and cross the cutoff threshold before the visual warning triggers. This shows up as a sudden shutdown with the indicator still showing one bar. After fitting a new cell, run two full charge-to-discharge cycles to let the firmware re-calibrate its voltage-to-capacity mapping. If the unit still shuts off early, confirm resting voltage at full charge reads 4.18–4.20V before flight.

Saved routes and flight plan data missing after battery swap

The Stratus 2 series stores flight-relevant data on its paired EFB app — not in onboard battery-backed RAM — so most route and airspace data survives a full power removal. However, device pairing credentials, custom alert thresholds, and calibration offsets are held in onboard non-volatile memory that can reset during a deep-discharge event before the swap. If settings are missing after fitting the new cell, reconnect to your EFB app via Bluetooth and step through the Stratus setup wizard to restore pairing and re-enter any custom alert values.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Stratus 2 took over 10 minutes to get a GPS fix after I replaced the battery — is something wrong with the new cell?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. Removing power clears the GPS almanac — the receiver no longer knows satellite positions and has to rebuild that data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. This is a cold-start condition, not a battery fault. Subsequent power cycles after that first fix will lock on in under a minute. Leave the unit outside and stationary until the fix completes before your first flight.

The Stratus shuts down mid-flight with no low-battery warning — the new cell seems to drain faster than expected during active use.

Active ADS-B reception, GPS tracking, and a live Bluetooth link to your tablet all draw simultaneously — this is the highest current state the Stratus operates in, and draw is significantly higher than standby. At high draw, the cell voltage sags faster than the firmware's calibration curve expects, which can trigger the cutoff threshold before the indicator reaches the warning zone. Run two full charge-discharge cycles after fitting the new cell so the BMS re-maps the voltage curve accurately. Before a long flight, verify the cell reads 4.18–4.20V at rest after a full charge.

GPS position accuracy dropped noticeably after I swapped the battery — the track on my EFB looks jittery.

Some GPS receivers step down receiver sensitivity when supply voltage is marginal — even a small sag under load can affect signal processing. First, confirm the new cell holds a stable voltage above 3.6V during normal operation by checking the Stratus indicator under active use. If accuracy recovers as the unit warms up and stabilises, the receiver was operating through a post-swap voltage transient. If jitter persists after a full charge cycle, check that the replacement cell connector is fully seated — an intermittent contact introduces noise on the power rail.
