Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TomTom Pro 8270 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (UZ6)

This is a 3.7V, 2000mAh Li-ion cell replacing OEM part UZ6 in the TomTom Pro 8270, Pro 8275, Bridge, and 4F173 GPS navigators. It slots into the same footprint as the original at 65.50 × 50.80 × 5.30mm. Fit the cell when the original no longer holds a charge through a full navigation session.

  • Pro 8270 / Pro 8275 / Bridge / 4F173 fit: These four models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V voltage rail, so one cell covers the whole group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the cell through charge and discharge cycles on the Pro 8270 platform. The BMS accepted full charge without error flags and the device powered on cleanly at each stage of the cycle.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors before driving. The unit performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first satellite fix typically takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy dropping at low battery on the Pro 8270

When cell voltage falls below roughly 3.5V, some TomTom Pro units reduce receiver sensitivity to lower current draw. This shows up as position drift or a wider accuracy circle on the map — not a GPS signal issue. The fix is straightforward: a fresh cell running at nominal 3.7V restores the receiver to full sensitivity. If you see accuracy problems early in a session, check whether the old battery is voltage-sagging under the display and GPS receiver load.

Device shuts off without warning before the low-battery indicator appears

This happens when the on-device battery gauge is calibrated to an aged cell, not the replacement. The firmware's low-battery threshold is tied to a voltage curve that no longer matches a fresh 2000mAh cell. The device reads the voltage correctly but maps it to the wrong state-of-charge percentage, so the visual warning never fires before cutoff. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles to let the firmware recalibrate its voltage-to-capacity mapping — the warning indicator should align by the third cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Pro 8270 saved routes and favourite POIs disappeared after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Pro 8270 holds some navigation data in RAM that requires continuous battery power to retain. A full power removal — which happens during a battery swap — clears that volatile memory. Export your routes and favourites to the internal storage or to MyDrive before pulling the battery; anything saved there survives a power cycle intact.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes after fitting the new battery, but it was instant before — what changed?

Removing the battery clears the GPS almanac and ephemeris data cached in the receiver. Without that data, the unit has to perform a cold start, downloading satellite position data from scratch — that takes 5–10 minutes in open sky. This is a one-time event per power interruption. Park outdoors with a clear sky view, leave the device powered on, and the next lock will drop back to under a minute once the almanac is re-cached.

The Pro 8270 drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating compared to when it's sitting idle — is the new battery defective?

It is not defective. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, touchscreen backlight, and map rendering simultaneously — that draw is significantly higher than standby. The GPS receiver alone pulls consistent current to maintain satellite lock, and maximum screen brightness adds to that. Drop screen brightness to around 50–60% in the display settings; that reduces the combined draw enough to extend usable navigation time without affecting map readability in a vehicle.
