Fits EADS THR8 handheld radio, replaces OEM part number BLN-7.
3.7V lithium-ion cell with 2200mAh capacity delivers full transmit power output without sag.
Connector seats vertically into battery slot with mechanical locking tab facing the radio body.
Bench test showed clean BMS handshake on first dock insertion with zero fault LED delay.
If the charger dock shows a fault light after inserting this cell, remove and reseat — the THR8 platform needs a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

EADS THR8 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BLN-7)

This is a 3.7V, 2200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the EADS THR8 handheld two-way radio. It uses OEM part number BLN-7 and fits the THR8 directly. Voltage and cell format match the original pack specification.

  • THR8 platform fit: The THR8 uses a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion pack with a proprietary contact layout and BMS handshake. This replacement matches that voltage rail and connector geometry so the radio's protection circuit recognises the pack on first insertion.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge, standby, and simulated PTT transmit loads. The BMS handled the transmit current spike without tripping into lockout, and the protection circuit re-engaged cleanly after each discharge cycle.
  • First-insertion contact check on the THR8 charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating. The THR8 charger requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it begins charging.

THR8 bar indicator reading lower than expected on a new BLN-7

New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V to 3.7V, not a full 4.2V charge. The THR8 maps its bar indicator directly to voltage thresholds, so a pack at storage voltage will show fewer bars than a fully charged one. This is not a fault with the cell. A full charge cycle in the dock will bring the pack to 4.2V and the indicator will reflect that correctly.

THR8 cutting out mid-transmission on a replacement BLN-7

Pressing PTT draws significantly more current than standby — the transmit load on a 3.7V single-cell pack can spike sharply enough to trigger the BMS overcurrent cutoff if the cell is partially discharged. The radio cuts out because the BMS interrupts the circuit to protect the cell, not because the pack has failed. Fully charge the battery before use and avoid transmitting at high power on a pack below roughly 3.8V resting voltage. If cutouts persist on a full charge, check the dock contacts for corrosion and re-seat the pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

The THR8 charger dock keeps showing a fault LED and never starts charging the new BLN-7 — what's wrong?

A new replacement pack sometimes ships below the voltage threshold the THR8 dock needs to accept a charge cycle — typically under 3.5V. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the dock with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the fault LED persists, the cell may need a boost charge from a compatible external Li-ion charger to bring it above the dock's acceptance voltage before the dock will take over.

The THR8 drops to noticeably weaker transmission partway through a shift even though the battery looked fine at the start — why?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output. As the cell discharges, internal resistance rises and the voltage dips under the transmit load, causing the radio to reduce TX power to stay within its operating window. It is not a fault — it is the radio protecting its RF circuit. Charge the pack fully at the start of each shift and avoid running it past the first bar on the indicator before recharging.

The new BLN-7 pack won't take any charge after sitting unused for several months — is it dead?

Extended storage can drop a Li-ion cell below the BMS recovery threshold, after which the protection circuit blocks normal charging. The pack is not necessarily dead. Use a Li-ion charger with a recovery or trickle mode to slowly bring the cell voltage above 3.0V, at which point the BMS should re-initialise and allow a normal charge cycle to complete. If the cell does not recover past 3.0V after 30 minutes on trickle, the pack has reached end of life and should be replaced.
