Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sepura STP8X Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (300-00910)
This 7.4V 1800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack on the Sepura STP8X and STP8X000 portable digital radios. These are TETRA handhelds used across emergency services, security, and public safety operations. Voltage and cell count match the original spec exactly.
- STP8X and STP8X000 platform fit: Both variants run the same 7.4V two-cell architecture with an identical connector housing and BMS handshake protocol — one replacement battery covers both model suffixes without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the STP8X charge dock and monitored BMS response during simulated PTT transmit bursts. The protection circuit handled peak transmit current draw without tripping into lockout, and charge acceptance registered correctly on the first dock insertion.
- First dock insertion on the STP8X: If the charger shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The STP8X dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it will begin charging.
Why the STP8X cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery
A new Li-ion pack ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell, not full charge. When the STP8X transmits, it draws a sharp current spike. If the pack hasn't been fully charged first, that spike can pull cell voltage below the BMS undervoltage threshold, triggering an immediate cutoff. The radio goes silent, and the user assumes the battery is faulty. Charge the pack completely before first use — the dock needs to bring each cell to 4.2V before the battery can handle sustained RF output without tripping the protection circuit.
Bar indicator shows one fewer bar than expected after a full charge
The STP8X uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator, not a fuel gauge chip — it reads instantaneous cell voltage and maps it to a bar count. A new pack fresh off the charger may read slightly below the top threshold if the dock terminated charge early due to a minor contact impedance variation. Remove the battery, clean the contacts, reseat it, and run one full charge cycle again. After that cycle, the indicator should display correctly at the voltage the cells are actually holding — check that resting voltage is at or above 8.3V before concluding there is a fault.

Frequently Asked Questions
The STP8X dock shows a fault LED and never starts charging — what's causing it?
The dock fault LED usually means the pack arrived below the charger's acceptance voltage threshold — common after extended storage. Remove the battery, wipe all gold contacts on the pack and dock with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly to clear any resistance that's confusing the BMS handshake. If the fault persists, the cell voltage may be too low for the dock to accept; some STP8X chargers require the pack to be above 6.0V before they will initiate a charge cycle. Try reseating once more after a 10-minute wait — the dock re-polls on insertion.
Radio drops to reduced transmit power partway through a shift — is the battery failing?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF load, not a failed cell. As the pack discharges, cell voltage drops under the current draw of continuous transmission, and the STP8X automatically steps down TX power to stay within its operating voltage floor. It's normal behaviour at lower state of charge, not a fault. If it's happening early in a shift, check that the pack completed a full charge cycle — a partially charged battery hits the sag threshold much sooner than a fully charged one.
The STP8X battery was stored unused for several months and the radio won't power on — is it recoverable?
Extended storage can push Li-ion cells below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell — causing the protection circuit to lock the pack out entirely. Place the battery in the STP8X dock and leave it for at least 30 minutes without disturbing it; some chargers have a pre-charge trickle mode that slowly brings cells back above the lockout floor before switching to full charge current. If the dock shows no response at all after 30 minutes, check resting pack voltage with a multimeter — if it reads below 5.0V across the terminals, the cells have self-discharged past safe recovery.
