Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ZTE GH650 / PH700 / PH790 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AB700 / AB750)
This is a 7.4V, 2000mAh Li-ion battery for the ZTE GH650, PH700, and PH790 portable two-way radios. It replaces OEM part numbers AB700 and AB750. These radios are used in public safety, security, and industrial environments where a dead pack mid-shift is not an option.
- GH650, PH700, and PH790 compatibility: All three models share the same battery bay dimensions, 7.4V rail, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers the full platform — no connector adapters or firmware flags needed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge acceptance, PTT transmit-current draw, and BMS cutoff verification. The protection circuit responded correctly to overcurrent spikes and recovered cleanly after simulated deep discharge.
- First-insertion contact check on the ZTE dock: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The ZTE dock requires a clean contact surface to complete the BMS handshake before it will begin the charge cycle.
Why the GH650 cuts out mid-transmission on a new AB700 pack
PTT transmit pulls a sharp current spike — often two to three times the standby draw — in the first 200 milliseconds. A new cell shipped at storage voltage (typically 3.7–3.8V per cell) has less headroom to absorb that spike before the BMS interprets it as an overcurrent event and trips. The radio goes silent, then recovers in a second or two. Running one full charge-discharge cycle before field use brings both cells to rated capacity and eliminates the false trip.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting a new pack
The GH650 reads battery level by measuring terminal voltage against fixed thresholds — there is no fuel gauge chip. A new pack sitting at storage voltage reads lower than a fully charged one, so the radio displays one fewer bar than it should. This is not a faulty cell. Charge the pack to completion (the dock LED goes solid green), then power the radio on — the bar indicator will reflect the correct full-charge voltage of 8.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ZTE GH650 drops to low TX power partway through a shift even though the battery bar still shows two bars — what's happening?
Sustained RF output causes voltage sag under load, and the radio's TX power management steps down output when terminal voltage dips below a set threshold — even if the bar indicator hasn't moved yet. The bar indicator only updates at coarse voltage steps, so it can lag behind the real cell state. This typically appears on older packs with elevated internal impedance, but can also show on a new pack that hasn't completed a full charge cycle. Charge the AB700/AB750 pack fully before the next shift and confirm dock LED shows solid green before pulling it.
The ZTE dock blinks a fault LED continuously after inserting the new AB700 pack and never starts charging — how do I clear it?
A continuously blinking fault LED on the ZTE dock usually means the pack's terminal voltage is below the dock's acceptance threshold — this happens when a new cell has been in storage and drops below roughly 6.0V total. Remove the pack, wipe all four gold contacts on both the battery and dock with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the fault persists after reseating, leave the pack in the dock for 10 minutes — the charger will attempt a low-current trickle pre-charge to bring the cell voltage up to the acceptance window before switching to full charge.
After leaving the GH650 battery unused for two months, it won't power the radio at all — is the pack dead?
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage and can drop below the BMS recovery threshold after extended time off the charger — the BMS then locks the output to protect the cells from over-discharge damage. The pack is not necessarily dead. Seat it in the ZTE dock and watch for any LED activity within the first five minutes; even a slow amber blink means the charger has detected a live cell and is pushing trickle current. Allow up to 30 minutes for the voltage to climb back above 6.0V, at which point the dock will switch to normal charge mode and the radio will power on normally.
