Fits Entel HT640, HT642, HT644, HT649 and replaces OEM part number CNB750E.
Voltage measures 7.4V; capacity is 2000mAh — standard output for sustained two-way radio transmission without sag.
Connector type is Entel-standard; battery seats vertically into the radio grip with a positive locking tab.
We bench-tested the BMS across charge cycles; voltage regulation held steady under sustained PTT load without cutoff.
On first dock insertion, if the charger shows a fault LED, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating — the Entel platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Entel HT640 / HT642 / HT644 / HT649 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CNB750E)

This is a 7.4V, 2000mAh lithium-ion replacement battery for the Entel HT640, HT642, HT644, and HT649 handheld two-way radios. It uses OEM part number CNB750E and fits the same battery bay with the same contact layout. Voltage and capacity match the original Entel specification exactly.

  • HT640 series compatibility: The HT640, HT642, HT644, and HT649 share the same 7.4V battery bay, contact strip geometry, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers the full platform without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge, discharge, and PTT transmit-surge cycles on the HT640 platform. The BMS handled the transmit current spike without tripping and accepted dock charging from rest voltage without fault LED.
  • First insertion into the dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Entel dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the HT640 cuts out mid-transmission on a new CNB750E pack

A new lithium-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell, putting the pack around 7.2–7.4V open-circuit. That reads fine at idle, but the HT640's transmit circuit draws a sharp current spike the moment PTT is pressed. If the BMS interprets that spike as an overcurrent event before the cells have been through a full charge cycle, it cuts power momentarily and the radio drops. The fix is to charge the pack fully before the first transmission shift, not straight from the box.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a new pack

The HT640 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator — no fuel gauge chip, just voltage steps mapped to bar segments. A new CNB750E at storage voltage sits at a threshold boundary, so the radio may display one bar fewer than a fully charged pack. This is not a capacity fault. Charge the pack to completion — the charger dock green LED confirms full charge — and the bar indicator will reflect the correct voltage level on next power-on.

Frequently Asked Questions

The HT640 drops to low TX power partway through a shift — is this the battery?

Yes, this is voltage sag under sustained RF output. As the cells discharge, voltage drops below the HT640's high-power TX threshold and the radio steps down to a lower output level to protect the circuit. It is not a fault in the pack — it is normal lithium-ion discharge behaviour under radio load. Charge the CNB750E fully before each shift to start the day at peak cell voltage.

The dock never clears its fault LED even after I reseat the CNB750E several times — what's causing it?

A persistent dock fault LED after multiple reseats usually means the pack has sat discharged long enough for cell voltage to drop below the dock's acceptance threshold — typically below 6.0V for a 7.4V two-cell pack. The charger dock refuses to initiate a charge cycle below that threshold as a safety measure. If you have a bench charger capable of a trickle recovery mode, bring the pack up to approximately 6.5V first, then reseat it in the Entel dock.

The HT640 powers on fine but cuts out completely the moment I press PTT — new pack, first use.

This is a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by the transmit current spike on an uncharged cell. At storage voltage the BMS protection threshold is closer to the transmit draw, so the first hard PTT press trips the overcurrent cutoff and the radio loses power. Remove the pack, charge it fully in the dock until the green LED confirms completion, then reinsert — a fully charged cell has enough headroom above the BMS trip point to handle the PTT surge without cutting out.
