Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vertex Standard EVX-231 / EVX-530 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AAJ67X001)
This 7.4V Li-ion battery replaces OEM part numbers AAJ67X001, AAJ68X001, FNB-112Li, FNB-113Li, FNB-V134Li, and FNB-V136 across the Vertex Standard EVX lineup. It fits the EVX-231, EVX-261, EVX-530, and EVX-531 portable UHF transceivers, plus eight additional models in that family. Capacity is 3350mAh (24.79Wh) — sourced from our product data, not estimated.
- EVX-231 / EVX-530 platform compatibility: These models share the same battery bay geometry, 7.4V nominal rail, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell pack spans the full EVX portable range without connector or firmware conflict.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through transmit loads on the EVX-531 bench unit. The BMS handled the transmit current spike without tripping overcurrent lockout, and the charger dock accepted the handshake on first insertion.
- Contact strip care on first dock insertion: If the charger dock shows a fault LED when you first seat this pack, pull the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The EVX dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it will begin charging.
Why the EVX-231 cuts out mid-transmission on a new pack
A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell, not full charge. When you key up on the EVX-231, transmit current spikes sharply. If the cell voltage is already low from storage, that spike can pull the pack below the BMS overcurrent threshold and trigger a momentary cutout. This is not a faulty battery. Charge the pack fully before the first field shift — the dock should show green before you pull it.
Bar indicator reads one bar fewer than expected on a fresh AAJ67X001 pack
The EVX series uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator, not a chip-based fuel gauge. A pack at storage voltage reads lower than a fully charged cell, so the radio displays one fewer bar even though the pack is not depleted. The fix is straightforward: charge the battery to full in the dock before reading the indicator. After a complete charge cycle, the pack should sit at 8.3–8.4V open circuit and the indicator will reflect that correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
My EVX-231 cuts out the moment I press PTT on the new AAJ67X001 pack — is the battery faulty?
It is almost certainly not faulty. New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage, and the transmit current spike on PTT can pull the pack below the BMS overcurrent threshold before a full charge cycle. Charge the pack completely in the dock before using it in the field. Once the dock shows green and the pack reads 8.3–8.4V open circuit, the cutout on PTT should not recur.
The EVX charger dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging after I insert the new pack — what is happening?
The EVX dock requires a clean electrical contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it accepts the pack for charging. Oxidation or debris on the gold contact strip on the battery breaks that handshake. Pull the pack out, wipe the gold contacts firmly with a dry cloth, and reseat it with steady pressure. If the dock still shows a fault LED, check the dock contacts for the same debris — one clean cycle on both sides clears the fault in almost every case.
The EVX-530 drops to noticeably weaker audio and reduced transmit range mid-shift on this battery — what causes that?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output. During extended transmit sessions, internal cell impedance causes the pack voltage to drop enough that the radio steps down TX power to stay within operating limits. It is a normal battery behaviour under continuous load, not a sign of a defective cell. Let the pack rest off the radio for a few minutes — voltage recovers to above 7.0V and the radio returns to full TX power for the next transmission cycle.
