Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kenwood NX-200 / NX-300 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (KNB-47L)
This 7.4V 3350mAh Li-ion battery replaces the Kenwood KNB-47L, KNB-48L, and KNB-50NC packs. It fits the NX-200, NX-300, TK-3320, and TK-5220 portable transceivers. Voltage and capacity match OEM spec directly from the product data — 7.4V, 3350mAh (24.79Wh).
- NX-200 / NX-300 / TK-series platform fit: These models share the same 7.4V battery rail, physical connector, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers all four listed models without any adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge cycle and PTT-load discharge on a Kenwood dock. The BMS held the 7.4V rail cleanly under transmit load and tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold — no false overcurrent shutdowns detected.
- First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock LED shows a fault on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Kenwood platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the NX-200 drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new battery
The NX-200 monitors rail voltage continuously during transmission. When the battery cell voltage sags under sustained RF output — typically during back-to-back PTT cycles — the radio steps down transmit power to protect the final amplifier stage. This is not a faulty battery. It is the radio's built-in protection responding to momentary voltage dip under high draw. A new pack at storage voltage (around 3.7V per cell) is more prone to this on first use. Run a full charge cycle before deploying the radio in the field.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after installing this pack
The NX-series uses a simple voltage-threshold bar display — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a percentage reading. A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage, which sits at the lower edge of the top threshold. The radio reads that as one bar below full. This is normal and resolves after the first full charge cycle on the dock. Once the pack reaches 8.4V at full charge, the bar indicator will display correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
The dock shows a fault LED and never starts charging — I've reseated the battery three times. What's wrong?
If the pack sat in storage for an extended period, the cell voltage may have dropped below the dock's acceptance threshold. The Kenwood charging dock will not initiate a charge cycle on a pack it reads as critically low. Connect the battery to a charger capable of recovery or "boost" mode, bring the cell voltage above approximately 6.0V, then reseat in the dock. The fault LED should clear and the charge cycle will begin normally.
Radio cuts out completely mid-transmission — doesn't drop power, just shuts off. New battery installed yesterday.
A full mid-transmission cutout on a new pack points to a BMS overcurrent trip, not a flat battery. The PTT transmit current spike on the NX-200 and TK-series can exceed 2A for a fraction of a second. If the BMS trips on that spike, the pack disconnects instantly and the radio goes dead. Remove the battery, wait ten seconds to allow the BMS to reset, then reinsert and attempt transmission. If the cutout repeats, charge the pack fully first — the BMS overcurrent threshold tightens when cell voltage is below 7.0V.
Pack inserted correctly and charges, but the dock never transitions to a full-charge green light — stays on amber for hours.
This usually means cell impedance is higher than the dock expects, so the charging algorithm keeps trickling current without reaching the termination voltage it's waiting for. It is common on a new pack that has been in storage. Run the pack through one full discharge in the radio under normal PTT use, then place it back on the dock. The dock should reach full-charge termination within a standard cycle after that conditioning discharge.
