Fits Magellan RoadMate 5175TLM and RoadMate 5175-LM GPS navigators, replacing OEM part SJM1300.
3.7V lithium-ion cell rated 1300mAh holds enough charge for full-day navigation on a single charge cycle.
Connector seats into the battery slot behind the 5-inch touchscreen with positive contact alignment; no locking tab, sits flush against housing.
We bench-tested this cell in a RoadMate 5175TLM unit; BMS accepted charge current without fault codes, voltage held steady under navigation load.
After installing this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and wait for satellite acquisition before relying on active turn-by-turn navigation.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Magellan RoadMate 5175TLM — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SJM1300)

This is a 3.7V, 1300mAh Li-ion cell for the Magellan RoadMate 5175TLM and RoadMate 5175-LM portable GPS navigators. It replaces OEM part SJM1300 and fits directly into the original battery bay. If your unit shuts off mid-route or won't hold a charge through a full drive, this cell restores full power capacity.

  • RoadMate 5175TLM and 5175-LM compatibility: Both model variants use the same battery bay dimensions and 3.7V single-cell architecture. The connector pinout and BMS communication line are identical across the two, so one cell covers both.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a RoadMate 5175TLM unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and the charge circuit reached a full 4.2V cutoff cleanly on the first cycle.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After any full power removal, the GPS module loses its ephemeris data and runs a cold start. Take the unit outdoors and power it on before driving — first satellite fix can take 5 to 10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute.

GPS battery draining faster on active navigation than on standby

Active turn-by-turn navigation puts the GPS receiver, processor, and 5-inch display all under simultaneous load. The display alone at full brightness accounts for a significant share of draw. The GPS receiver stays locked and polling continuously during routing, unlike standby where it sleeps between fixes. Dimming the screen to mid-level is the single most effective way to extend charge duration on a drive.

RoadMate 5175TLM shutting off without low-battery warning

The battery indicator on this unit reads relative to a calibrated voltage curve stored in firmware. When a new or replacement cell is first installed, that calibration is mismatched — the unit can hit its internal voltage cutoff threshold before the visual warning has time to display. This is most common in the first two or three charge cycles. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles and the indicator will track accurately against the new cell's actual discharge curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RoadMate 5175TLM lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The RoadMate 5175TLM stores some navigation data in battery-backed RAM, which loses its state when power is fully removed. Custom routes and recent destinations saved in volatile memory will not survive a complete battery swap. Favourites and POIs stored to internal flash are usually retained — reload your custom routes from the Magellan Content Manager after the swap.

Satellite lock is taking over 5 minutes after fitting the new battery — something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery clears the GPS module's ephemeris cache, which contains satellite position data downloaded during previous use. Without that cache, the receiver runs a cold start and has to download fresh ephemeris data from scratch, which takes 5 to 10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the first fix completes and the unit has been used a few times, warm-start lock times drop back to under a minute.

GPS accuracy seems off after the battery replacement — is the receiver affected?

Some GPS units reduce receiver sensitivity at low battery voltage to cut power draw, and the 5175TLM can exhibit reduced positioning accuracy if the firmware reads the cell as low during the first cycle on a new battery. Charge the replacement cell fully to 4.2V before the first use, then allow the unit to acquire a satellite fix outdoors for a full minute before moving. Accuracy should normalise once the battery reads at nominal voltage and the receiver is running at full sensitivity.
