Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

FireDogGolf XL2300 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (GP50301HG026)

This 3.7V, 1050mAh Li-ion cell replaces the OEM battery in the FireDogGolf XL2300 GPS golf rangefinder. It fits the handheld unit directly and matches the original connector and BMS communication profile. Capacity is 1050mAh (3.89Wh) — identical to the factory specification.

  • XL2300 platform fit: The XL2300 uses a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion pack with a specific connector keyed to this form factor. The BMS in the rangefinder monitors cell voltage and temperature directly — a mismatched cell triggers a charge-refusal fault. This cell handshakes correctly with that BMS.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the XL2300 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, balanced correctly at 4.2V full charge, and the low-battery cutoff triggered at the expected 3.0V floor with no premature shutoffs.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after installation: After fitting this cell, power the XL2300 on outdoors with a clear view of the sky and let it run through a full satellite acquisition before use. GPS units perform a cold start after any complete power interruption — first fix can take 5–10 minutes, but subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once the almanac is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the XL2300

As the XL2300 cell voltage drops toward 3.2–3.3V, the unit reduces power to the GPS receiver module to extend operating time. That power reduction lowers receiver sensitivity, which means the unit may drop to fewer satellites or shift to weaker signals. Distance readings can drift by several yards when this happens. Keep the cell charged above the halfway indicator to maintain full receiver sensitivity during a round.

XL2300 shuts off without warning before the low-battery indicator appears

The low-battery indicator on the XL2300 is calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell — or a degraded one — can have a slightly different voltage-to-capacity curve, causing the unit to hit the hardware cutoff voltage before the software warning has triggered. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Recalibrate by running two full charge-discharge cycles so the BMS can re-map the cutoff threshold to the new cell's curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My XL2300 shut off on the 14th hole with no low-battery warning — is the new battery faulty?

Almost certainly not a faulty cell. The XL2300's low-battery warning is mapped to the original cell's discharge curve, and a new cell discharges slightly differently — the hardware cutoff voltage is reached before the software warning fires. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles and the BMS re-learns the curve. After that, the warning and shutoff should align correctly.

I swapped the battery and now the XL2300 is taking ages to find my location on the course — what's happening?

This is a cold start. Removing the battery clears the GPS receiver's cached satellite almanac, so the unit has to reacquire all satellite data from scratch. First fix after a battery swap typically takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Stand still with the device held level until the lock indicator confirms a fix — subsequent power cycles the same day will lock in under a minute.

The XL2300 is showing further distances than usual after I fitted the replacement battery — could the battery be causing this?

Yes, indirectly. When cell voltage drops below roughly 3.2–3.3V, the XL2300 reduces power to the GPS receiver to conserve energy, which lowers satellite signal sensitivity and degrades positional accuracy. If the battery charge is low, top it up to full and recheck the readings. If the drift persists at full charge, force a satellite re-acquisition by powering off, moving to open sky, and powering back on.
