Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Approach G80 — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (361-00124-00)

This is a 3.8V 1900mAh Li-Polymer cell built to the same specification as the factory battery in the Garmin Approach G80 handheld GPS golf navigator. It fits the G80 directly and restores full function to units where the original cell no longer holds charge. Capacity is 1900mAh (7.22Wh), matching the OEM figure.

  • Approach G80 fit: The G80 uses a flat Li-Polymer pouch cell at 3.8V nominal with a specific three-pin connector. The BMS on this device monitors cell voltage and temperature. Any cell that deviates from the correct voltage rail causes the device to refuse to power on entirely.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the G80 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, charged to full without interruption, and the GPS module initialised normally on power-up.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this battery, power the G80 on outdoors before your round and let it run a full satellite acquisition. A cold start after total power removal takes 5–10 minutes for first fix. Subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy dropping as the Approach G80 battery depletes

The G80 reduces power to the GPS receiver module when cell voltage falls below a certain threshold. This shows up as position drift or slower course map updates — not a software glitch, but a deliberate low-power state. A fresh cell running at full nominal voltage keeps the receiver at full sensitivity for the entire round. If accuracy issues appear mid-round, check that the battery registers above 3.5V under load.

Approach G80 shutting off without low-battery warning

After a battery swap, the G80's fuel gauge IC has not yet profiled the new cell. It reads state-of-charge from a model calibrated to a depleted original battery, which means the on-screen indicator can show two bars and the device still cuts off. This is not a faulty battery — it is an uncalibrated gauge. Run two full charge-discharge cycles in normal use and the gauge will re-anchor its low-voltage cutoff threshold accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Approach G80 lost all my saved courses after I replaced the battery — is there any way to recover them?

Saved courses on the G80 are stored in non-volatile flash memory, not battery-backed RAM, so a full power removal during swap should not erase course maps. What is more likely lost is the last active round in progress and any unsaved stat entries. Check the Course Manager menu — downloaded courses should still be present. If they are missing, reconnect to Garmin Golf via the app and re-sync; course data re-downloads over Wi-Fi in under two minutes.

The Approach G80 is taking nearly ten minutes to find satellites after the battery replacement — is something wrong with the new cell?

Nothing is wrong. When a GPS device loses all power, it discards its cached satellite almanac and ephemeris data. The receiver has to rebuild that picture from scratch — this is called a cold start and 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view is normal. Power the G80 on outside and hold it still. Once it gets its first fix, subsequent lock times drop to under 60 seconds because the almanac is cached again.

The G80 battery indicator shows full but the device dies halfway through a round — why?

This is a fuel gauge calibration issue, not a cell fault. The G80's charge estimation IC built its model around the worn original battery. With a new cell, the capacity curve is different and the gauge misreads state-of-charge until it learns the new cell. Run two complete charge cycles — charge to 100%, use until the device shuts off on its own, then charge fully again. After two cycles the gauge recalibrates and the indicator will reflect actual remaining charge accurately.
