This 3.7V, 1000mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original KF40BF45D0D9X battery in the Garmin Approach G6 handheld golf GPS. The Approach G6 displays course layouts, hole distances, and hazard positions during a round — all of which depend entirely on a functioning battery. When the original cell degrades and can no longer power a full 18 holes, this is the direct replacement.

Approach G6 shuts off without warning before the battery indicator hits empty

The G6 fuel gauge calibrates its empty threshold against the original cell's discharge curve. A degraded original cell drops voltage rapidly in the final 20% of capacity, so the device learned to cut off early. After fitting a fresh cell, that threshold is no longer accurate — the unit may still shut off sooner than the indicator suggests for the first few charge cycles. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles on the course and the fuel gauge recalibrates against the new cell's curve. After recalibration, low-battery warnings appear at the correct charge level.

Course data on the Approach G6 is stored in flash memory, not battery-backed RAM, so a full power interruption during the swap should not erase saved courses. If courses are missing, the most likely cause is an incomplete sync before the swap rather than the battery change itself. Re-download the missing courses through Garmin Express or the Garmin Connect app over USB — the courses are stored in your account and can be pushed back to the device in under two minutes.

Why is the Approach G6 taking nearly 10 minutes to show my position after fitting the new battery?

A full battery removal clears the satellite almanac data the G6 holds in memory to speed up positioning. Without that cached data, the receiver has to rebuild its picture of which satellites are overhead — that process takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. This is a normal cold start, not a fault with the new cell. Stand outside away from tree cover, leave the device on, and subsequent fixes on the same course will lock in under 60 seconds once the almanac rebuilds.

The Approach G6 is draining much faster on the back nine than it used to — what's causing that?

Active GPS tracking with the display at full brightness draws significantly more current than standby. On older cells, this wasn't obvious because total capacity had already faded. On a fresh 1000mAh cell, the drain rate is consistent — if you're still seeing fast drain, check screen brightness under Settings and drop it one level. Also confirm the backlight timeout is set to 15 seconds or less; backlight left on continuously is the single largest current draw on the G6 platform.
