Fits Garmin DriveSmart 5, DriveSmart 55, DriveSmart 65, and related Garmin 6-inch GPS navigators; replaces OEM part 361-00056-08.
3.7V, 750mAh capacity delivers sufficient charge for a full navigation session plus standby time on the DriveSmart platform.
Single-pin connector seats into the battery slot with polarity marked on the housing; locking tab engages flush with device frame.
We bench-tested this cell in a DriveSmart 55 unit; BMS accepted charge in under two hours with no cutoff faults.
After fitting, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire satellite lock before navigation — cold start takes five to ten minutes after battery swap versus one minute for warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin DriveSmart 5 / DriveSmart 55 / DriveSmart 65 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-00056-08)

This is a 3.7V, 750mAh Li-ion cell built to the 361-00056-08 specification. It fits the Garmin DriveSmart 5, DriveSmart 55, DriveSmart 65, and Drive 6" series GPS navigators. The cell measures 47.00 × 34.20 × 4.60mm and matches the original connector and BMS handshake.

  • DriveSmart 5 / 55 / 65 and Drive 6" series fit: These models share the same 3.7V cell bay, connector pinout, and charge management circuit. One cell covers the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a DriveSmart 55 unit. The BMS accepted charge without fault flags, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the GPS on outdoors and let it run until it acquires a satellite fix before driving. A cold start after full power removal takes 5–10 minutes for first fix. Subsequent warm starts drop under a minute once the almanac is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the DriveSmart series

When cell voltage drops below roughly 3.5V, the DriveSmart's power management reduces receiver sensitivity to preserve display operation. This shows up as position drift or delayed map snapping to the road. Replacing the cell restores full receiver power budget. After fitting, let the unit charge to at least 3.9V before a long trip to keep the receiver running at full sensitivity throughout.

DriveSmart 5 shutting off without a low-battery warning

This happens because the battery indicator is calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A degraded or new-but-uncalibrated cell can show 30–40% charge on screen while the actual terminal voltage is already at the cutoff threshold. The device shuts off abruptly because the indicator and the real voltage don't match yet. Run two or three full charge and discharge cycles to let the fuel gauge re-learn the cell's actual curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DriveSmart 5 lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The DriveSmart 5 stores some route and favourites data in battery-backed RAM, and a full power removal during a battery swap clears that memory. Custom routes saved only to the device are the most common casualty — data synced to Garmin Express or a myGarmin account survives the swap. Re-sync via Garmin Express after fitting the new cell to restore saved locations.

Satellite fix is taking 8–10 minutes after fitting the new battery — was something damaged?

Nothing is damaged. Removing the battery triggers a full cold start — the GPS has lost its cached almanac and ephemeris data and has to download fresh satellite positioning data from scratch. That process takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the first fix completes and the almanac is cached, every subsequent start drops to under a minute.

The DriveSmart shuts off mid-drive even though the battery indicator still shows charge remaining — what's happening?

The fuel gauge reads the discharge curve of the old cell, not the new one. Until two or three full cycles recalibrate it, the on-screen percentage can read 25–30% while the real terminal voltage is already at the cutoff point — around 3.0V — and the device cuts power to protect the cell. Run the unit down to auto-shutoff and charge it fully twice to let the gauge re-learn the new cell's curve.
