Fits Garmin VIRB, VIRB Elite, and Virb Elite Action HD Camera with part numbers 010-11599-00, 010-11654-03, or 010-01088-00.
3.7V, 1800mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 6.66Wh — enough capacity for extended recording sessions on the compact action camera.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot; locking tab seats flush against the camera body frame without force.
We ran full discharge cycles on a VIRB Elite body; BMS accepted the cell without authentication delay or display errors.
On first charge, use the OEM Garmin charger rather than camera USB — the dedicated charger allows the cell BMS to establish proper voltage mapping before the camera firmware logs capacity thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin VIRB / VIRB Elite Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (010-11599-00)

This is a 3.7V, 1800mAh Li-ion cell for the Garmin VIRB and VIRB Elite action cameras. It slots directly into the battery compartment and communicates with the camera's charge management system. Fits VIRB, VIRB Elite, VIRB Elite Action HD Camera 1.4, and E1GR variants.

  • VIRB and VIRB Elite compatibility: These two models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. The 010-11599-00 and cross-reference part 010-11654-03 both call the same cell spec — 3.7V nominal, matching the camera's charging circuit input range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the VIRB Elite charge cycle using an OEM charger. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, cycled through the protection thresholds at both ends, and the camera's battery indicator tracked consistently across the discharge curve.
  • First-install charge cycle on the VIRB: Run one full charge inside the camera body before shooting. The VIRB's fuel gauge calibrates its percentage mapping against the cell's charge curve during that first in-body cycle — skipping it can cause the indicator to read inaccurately for the first several uses.

Why the VIRB shows a dead battery indicator on a freshly charged replacement cell

The VIRB uses a voltage-threshold system to estimate charge state. A new cell that hasn't been calibrated inside the camera body can sit at a resting voltage the BMS interprets as low — even when fully charged externally. This is a mapping mismatch, not a faulty cell. Power the camera on and immediately place it on charge via the OEM cable or charger. After one complete in-camera charge cycle, the indicator will align correctly with the actual cell state.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the VIRB display

The VIRB maps its battery percentage against a fixed voltage-to-capacity curve calibrated to the original cell. A replacement cell with a slightly different discharge curve causes the indicator to jump between readings as voltage steps don't match expected thresholds. This is a display calibration issue — the cell itself is functioning correctly. Run two full discharge-and-charge cycles inside the camera body to let the BMS re-map the percentage display against the new cell's actual curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Garmin VIRB Elite says "no battery" after I installed the replacement — is it dead?

It's almost always a BMS authentication check, not a dead cell. The VIRB Elite expects the cell voltage to rise within a set window when charge current is applied before it signals a valid battery. Remove the cell, reinsert it firmly, then connect the OEM charger directly to the camera body. If the charge LED activates, the cell is accepted — power cycle the camera after the first full charge reaches 4.2V.

My VIRB records far fewer clips than expected even with a new battery — what's drawing it down?

Continuous video recording on the VIRB combines sensor readout, GPS logging, image processing, and Wi-Fi transmission simultaneously — each one pulls current beyond what a simple shot-count estimate accounts for. Disabling Wi-Fi and GPS when not needed reduces sustained draw significantly. Cold outdoor temperatures also compress the usable capacity of any Li-ion cell, so shots in sub-zero conditions will be fewer regardless of rated capacity. Check that the VIRB's Wi-Fi broadcast is off when not syncing to the Garmin Connect app.

The VIRB camera body gets noticeably warm during long video sessions on this replacement battery — is that a fault?

Heat during sustained recording is normal and comes from the camera's processor and sensor, not the battery alone. The cell itself contributes some heat as it delivers sustained current, but the combined thermal load under long 1080p sessions is expected behaviour on the VIRB platform. If the camera shuts down mid-recording with a temperature warning, allow the body to cool for five minutes before restarting — the thermal cutoff threshold is a camera-body protection, not a battery fault. Keep the camera out of direct sunlight during recording to reduce the base temperature before the cutoff point is reached.
