Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Golf Buddy Range Finder / DSC-GB100K — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion cell replaces the factory battery in the Golf Buddy Range Finder and DSC-GB100K GPS devices. These are handheld golf GPS navigators that display distances to greens, hazards, and course features. Swap this cell in when your unit no longer holds a charge through a full round.

  • Range Finder and DSC-GB100K fit: Both models run the same 3.7V single-cell Li-ion supply rail with identical connector orientation and physical footprint — 44.13 × 35.53 × 8.77mm. The BMS in each unit negotiates the same charge termination voltage, so one cell covers both.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a controlled bench rig. The BMS accepted the cell cleanly, hit full charge termination at 4.2V, and the low-voltage cutoff triggered at the expected threshold without any fault flags.
  • First satellite fix after battery swap: After a full power interruption the GPS module performs a cold start. Power the unit on outdoors and hold it steady — allow 5–10 minutes for the first satellite fix. Subsequent warm starts resolve in under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced as battery charge drops

Some Golf Buddy units reduce RF receiver sensitivity at low state-of-charge to protect remaining power. When that happens, the unit may still display distance readings but with less positional accuracy — typically showing a degraded satellite count. You'll notice this when distances start feeling inconsistent on holes you know well. Keep the battery above roughly 20% charge during active navigation to maintain full receiver gain.

Unit shuts off without warning before the battery indicator hits empty

A freshly installed cell has not yet been calibrated against the device's voltage-to-percentage fuel gauge. The on-screen indicator still reflects the old battery's discharge curve, so the visual warning may trigger late — or not at all before cutoff. The BMS enforces its own hard cutoff at the low-voltage threshold regardless of what the display shows. Run two full charge-discharge cycles and the gauge will recalibrate to the new cell's actual curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Golf Buddy lost all my saved courses after I replaced the battery — is there any way to get them back?

Course data and saved POIs on the Golf Buddy Range Finder are held in flash memory, not battery-backed RAM, so a full power interruption during the swap should not erase stored courses. If data is missing, the most likely cause is the unit resetting to factory state during a firmware reboot triggered by the power cycle. Reconnect the device to the Golf Buddy PC software or app and re-sync your course library — the courses download from the Golf Buddy server and restore within a few minutes.

The unit is draining much faster during a round than it used to — what's pulling the extra power?

Active navigation draws significantly more than standby because the GPS receiver and backlit display run simultaneously at full load. If drain feels unusually fast even with the screen dimmed, check whether the unit is struggling to maintain satellite lock — a weak fix causes the receiver to increase signal acquisition power, which adds measurable load. Drop screen brightness to its lowest usable setting and ensure you're not obstructed by heavy tree cover. If drain still seems excessive after two full charge cycles, the new cell's capacity is bedding in — it typically stabilises by the third cycle.

The distance readings look wrong or jumpy even though the unit has a satellite fix — could the battery be the cause?

Yes — at low state-of-charge, the GPS receiver in some Golf Buddy units pulls back its RF sensitivity to conserve power, reducing the number of satellites it actively tracks. Fewer tracked satellites means lower positional accuracy, which shows up as erratic or slow-updating distance figures. Check the satellite indicator on screen: if it shows fewer than four bars, charge the battery above 50% and retest outdoors in an open area. Stable readings should return once the receiver is operating at full sensitivity.
