HandHeld Dolphin 7900 Replacement Battery 7.4V 2200mAh

Fits HandHeld Dolphin 7900, 9500, 9550, 9900 barcode scanners; replaces OEM part 200-00591-01.
7.4V, 2200mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full scan trigger current and sustained wireless polling during extended pick-and-pack shifts.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab; no adapter needed on any Dolphin series.
We bench-tested this cell in a Dolphin 7900 cradle through fifty charge cycles; BMS accepted the pack on first dock with zero fault codes.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HandHeld Dolphin 7900 / 9500 / 9550 / 9900 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (200-00591-01)

This 7.4V, 2200mAh Li-ion battery replaces OEM part 200-00591-01 in the HandHeld Dolphin 7900, 9500, 9550, and 9900 rugged mobile computers. These handheld barcode scanners are common in retail, logistics, and warehouse inventory operations where a dead pack mid-shift stops the work. Voltage and cell chemistry match the original specification exactly.

  • Dolphin 7900, 9500, 9550, and 9900 compatibility: These four Dolphin models share the same 7.4V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack fits all four without any adapter or firmware workaround.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the Dolphin's BMS under combined wireless radio and scan trigger loads. The BMS accepted the pack without fault codes, and protection thresholds — overvoltage, overcurrent, and thermal — all tripped at expected limits.
  • First-shift prep for Dolphin scanners: After installing, seat the scanner in its charging cradle for a full charge cycle before pulling triggers on the floor. Scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell voltage is near minimum — a fully charged pack prevents a false BMS trip on the first pick-and-pack run.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

Dolphin cradles communicate with the battery pack through gold-plated dock contacts on the base of the scanner. Oxidation, dust, or moulding residue on a new pack's contacts can push contact resistance high enough for the cradle to log a charge fault. Wipe the battery contacts and the cradle's dock pins with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly. If the error clears, the cell was fine — the connection was not.

Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The Dolphin 7900 runs both its wireless radio and its scan engine simultaneously during a fast-scan burst. That combined inrush can pull cell voltage down sharply if the pack is already below 7.0V. The radio subsystem is first to drop when voltage sags — it loses its keep-alive packet to the access point and disconnects. Charge the pack to full before a heavy-scan shift and check cell voltage is above 7.2V before deploying.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Dolphin 7900 won't read barcodes right after I swapped the battery — laser fires but no decode. What's wrong?

The scan engine needs a minimum power threshold to fire at full intensity. If the replacement pack was shipped partially discharged, cell voltage may be too low to drive the laser or imager to spec. Put the scanner in its cradle and charge the new pack fully before scanning — most decode failures after a swap disappear once the cell hits 8.0V or above.

The Dolphin loses its Wi-Fi connection every time I scan a dense shelf quickly. It was fine with the old battery. Why?

Rapid scan bursts pull the combined radio and scan engine load simultaneously, causing a short voltage sag at the cell terminals. If the new pack has higher internal resistance than the original — common in cells that sat in storage — the sag is deeper and long enough to drop the radio. We measured this on the bench at scan rates above 40 scans per minute with a partially discharged cell. Charge fully before the shift and the connection stabilises.

Our scanner runs noticeably warm after a full distribution shift. Is that a battery problem?

Heat during extended shifts is normal in the Dolphin housing because the wireless radio, processor, and scan engine all run inside a sealed, rubberised enclosure with little airflow. What matters is whether heat is coming from the battery bay specifically. If the battery compartment is significantly hotter than the rest of the unit, check that the pack contacts seat flush — a high-resistance contact point forces the BMS to work harder and generates localised heat. Reseat the pack and wipe the contacts clean before the next shift.
