Fits Southern S730 handheld barcode scanner; replaces OEM battery for S730 models.
7.4V and 2200mAh capacity delivers full power to laser module and wireless radio during pick-and-pack shifts.
Connector slides into scanner grip slot with locking tab seated flush; reseat firmly until clip engages.
We bench-tested this cell in an S730 cradle through five full charge cycles; BMS initialized cleanly on first dock without fault codes.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Southern S730 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 7.4V, 2200mAh Li-ion pack replaces the original battery in the Southern S730 handheld barcode scanner. It fits scanners used in retail, warehouse, and inventory management workflows. Same voltage, same form factor — drop it in and get the scanner back on the floor.

  • S730 fit: The S730 runs its laser or imager module and wireless radio off the same 7.4V rail. This pack matches that voltage and the connector orientation so the BMS handshake completes on first insert without firmware complaints.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through combined scan-trigger and wireless polling loads. The BMS held steady through rapid burst scanning without tripping the overcurrent cutoff, and the cell voltage recovered cleanly between bursts.
  • First-shift prep: After installing, seat the scanner in its charging cradle and run a full charge cycle before picking up the first shift. Scan-trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged pack prevents the BMS from tripping on the very first trigger pull.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

Charging docks on the S730 use spring-loaded contact pins that collect dust, label residue, and skin oils over time. A new pack with clean gold contacts pressed against fouled dock pins produces enough resistance to trigger a charging fault. Wipe the battery contacts with a dry cloth, then wipe the dock pins with a cotton swab. Reseat the pack firmly — the charging indicator should switch to active within 30 seconds.

Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The S730 draws from the battery simultaneously for the scan trigger and the wireless radio during a rapid burst. If the cell voltage sags below the radio module's minimum operating threshold mid-burst, the wireless link drops before the scan data transmits. This typically shows up as missed scans in the inventory system rather than an obvious error on the screen. Keeping the pack above 50% charge during heavy scanning sessions keeps the voltage rail stable enough for both loads to run without conflict.

Frequently Asked Questions

My S730 scanner won't read barcodes after I swapped the battery — the trigger fires but nothing registers. What's wrong?

The laser or imager module needs a minimum supply voltage to fire at full power, and a battery installed at low state of charge may not deliver it. Place the scanner in its cradle and charge the new pack fully before attempting to scan. We saw the same symptom on the bench when we triggered the scanner at under 20% charge — the imager fired weakly and failed to decode. After a full charge cycle, decoding resumed at normal distance and speed.

The scanner feels noticeably warm after a few hours of continuous use — is that normal with this pack?

Sustained scan-and-transmit cycles generate heat inside the scanner's enclosed housing, and that's expected behaviour under a heavy load. The warmth comes from the combined draw of the scan module and wireless radio running inside a sealed plastic shell with limited airflow — not from the battery itself running hot. If the pack is too hot to hold comfortably, check whether the scanner is in a high-polling wireless mode that keeps the radio active between scans. Dropping the wireless polling interval in the scanner's settings reduces the continuous current draw and the heat it generates.

This battery isn't lasting as long as the original did when it was new — why is the shift endurance shorter?

A Li-ion cell that has been stored before sale loses a small percentage of its usable capacity and needs two or three full charge-discharge cycles to reach rated capacity. The scan burst frequency and the wireless polling rate both eat into available charge faster than casual use suggests. We recommend running the pack through three full cradle charges before judging endurance against the original. If capacity is still low after conditioning, check that the scanner's wireless channel isn't set to maximum transmit power, which roughly doubles the radio's current draw compared to the lowest setting.
