Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hoover HH5010WD HandiVac — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 14.4V, 2200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Hoover HH5010WD HandiVac cordless handheld vacuum. It replaces the original cell when the vacuum loses charge capacity or stops holding a useful charge. Dimensions are 88.90 × 66.70 × 47.20mm — confirm these against your existing pack before ordering.

  • HH5010WD HandiVac fit: The HH5010WD runs a 14.4V Ni-MH cell with a specific connector orientation and BMS voltage range. This replacement matches the original voltage rail and physical footprint so the motor controller receives the correct supply from startup.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through discharge and recharge on the HH5010WD platform. The BMS handled charge termination correctly and motor start-up current draw showed no trip events under normal suction conditions.
  • Dock charging habit on the HH5010WD: Do not leave the HandiVac sitting on the charging dock continuously between uses. Ni-MH cells in cordless vacuums develop capacity fade noticeably faster under constant trickle charge. Charge to full, then remove the unit from the dock until the next use.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The HH5010WD motor draws higher current when the filter is partially blocked — the restriction forces the motor to work harder against reduced airflow. Under that load, even a healthy Ni-MH cell can sag below the voltage threshold the motor controller needs, and suction drops noticeably before the indicator signals low battery. The battery itself is not always the cause. Clean or replace the filter first, then retest. If suction holds steady with a clean filter, the motor is drawing within spec and the cell is performing correctly.

Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When suction is restricted — blocked nozzle, clogged filter, or debris in the airway — the motor draws sustained current above the protection threshold and the BMS interrupts output to protect the cell. Clearing the blockage and waiting roughly 30 seconds allows the BMS to reset and the motor to restart. If the cutout repeats on an unobstructed path with a new battery, check that the replacement cell voltage at rest reads between 14.4V and 16.8V before fitting.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HH5010WD loses suction well before the battery light comes on — is the battery failing or is something else wrong?

A partially blocked filter is the most common cause. When airflow is restricted, the motor pulls more current than rated and the voltage sags early, dropping suction before the indicator triggers. Clean the filter thoroughly and retest — if suction holds longer, the cell was not the problem. If suction still drops early with a clean filter and a new battery, check that resting voltage on the pack reads at least 14.4V before fitting.

The vacuum runs for a few seconds, cuts out, then works again after I wait — what is causing this?

The BMS is tripping on an overcurrent event, which usually means the motor is working against a restriction. Check the nozzle, filter, and airway for blockages before assuming the battery is faulty. Once cleared, wait about 30 seconds for the BMS to reset, then restart. If the cutout keeps happening on a clear path, the cell may be voltage-sagging under motor-start draw — verify resting pack voltage is above 14.4V.

The replacement battery charges but the HandiVac holds noticeably less charge than the original did when new — why?

Ni-MH cells in cordless vacuums degrade faster when left on the dock continuously between uses. The trickle charge from permanent docking damages cell capacity over time, and if the previous battery was stored this way, the pattern can affect new cells too. Charge the new pack to full, remove it from the dock, and only return it when the vacuum needs charging again. After three or four full discharge-and-charge cycles following this method, capacity should stabilise at the rated 2200mAh.
