Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Ingenico IMP627 / IMP657 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (296196699)

This 3.7V, 1800mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Ingenico IMP627 and IMP657 portable payment terminals. It fits the IMP627-USBLU01A and IMP657-USJRS01A variants as well. Voltage and cell dimensions match OEM spec directly.

  • IMP627 and IMP657 platform fit: Both terminal families run the same 3.7V power rail and use identical connector pinouts and BMS handshake logic. One cell covers both platforms without wiring or adapter changes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on an IMP627 unit. The BMS accepted the handshake on first boot, charge current stepped down correctly at the top-off threshold, and the terminal reported battery state without error flags.
  • First transaction cycle after installation: After fitting this battery, complete one full transaction — card read, receipt print, and idle return — before live deployment. The terminal maps cell capacity during normal operation and needs at least one complete power cycle to calibrate the charge indicator correctly.

Terminal not completing PCI boot sequence after battery swap

The IMP627 runs a PCI security check during every boot. If the BMS handshake has not been confirmed yet, the terminal can stall partway through this sequence and display a low-battery or boot error. This is not a fault with the cell — it means the charge IC has not yet completed its initialisation pass. Plug the terminal into its charging cradle immediately after fitting the battery, let it charge to full without interruption, then perform a clean boot. After that cycle the PCI sequence completes normally.

Terminal will not power on after sitting unused in a drawer

Li-Polymer cells self-discharge at roughly 2–3% per month. A terminal stored for several months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell — causing the protection circuit to open and block all output. The terminal appears completely dead even on a charger. Connect it to the original dock or a compatible 5V USB-C source and leave it for 20–30 minutes without attempting to power on; the BMS needs time to trickle charge back above the recovery threshold before it will allow normal current flow. Once the charge LED activates, charge to full before booting.

Frequently Asked Questions

My IMP627 reboots right as the receipt starts printing — is that the battery?

Yes. The thermal printer draws a short current spike that can exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold on a depleted or degraded cell. The BMS trips, the terminal loses power momentarily, and it reboots mid-transaction. Fit the new battery, charge it fully, and run one complete transaction cycle to let the terminal calibrate capacity. If the reboot stops after that, the original cell was the cause.

The charge indicator on the IMP627 has been stuck at 99% since I installed the new battery — is it faulty?

It is not faulty. The charge IC switches to a top-off mode on a new cell and holds the display at 99% while it delivers a low trickle current to reach true full charge. This stage can take 30–60 minutes beyond what looks like a full charge. Leave the terminal in the cradle until the charge LED changes state, then remove it. The indicator will read correctly from the next discharge cycle onward.

The IMP627 gets noticeably warm during a busy transaction period — is the battery causing that?

The heat comes from combined draw, not the battery alone. During peak periods the terminal is running the display backlight, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth radio, and the receipt printer at the same time. That combined load raises cell temperature, which is normal up to about 45°C. Check that the terminal is not sitting inside a closed case or against another heat source. If the housing feels hot rather than warm, check that airflow around the terminal is clear and reduce continuous transaction volume to allow brief idle periods between heavy print jobs.
