Fits Iwatsu DC-PS8 two-way radio, replaces OEM battery DC-PS8.
3.7V, 1050mAh lithium-ion delivers full transmit power on sustained RF output without voltage sag.
Connector seats flush into DC-PS8 radio slot with positive terminal forward and mechanical locking tab engaged.
Bench testing showed clean BMS acceptance on first insertion into standard Iwatsu charger dock without fault LED.
If charger dock shows fault LED on first insertion, remove battery, wipe gold contact strip with dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the Iwatsu platform requires clean contact cycle to accept new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

IWATSU DC-PS8 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 1050mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the IWATSU DC-PS8 two-way radio. It fits the DC-PS8 directly, matching the original voltage rail and physical form factor. No OEM part number is published for this pack — the DC-PS8 is the sole confirmed fit model.

  • DC-PS8 platform fit: The DC-PS8 uses a compact 3.7V single-cell architecture common to slim handheld business radios. This battery matches that voltage rail and the original connector orientation, so the BMS handshake with the charger dock proceeds the same way as the factory pack.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through transmit loads and monitored the BMS cutoff behaviour. The protection circuit held within the expected voltage window under sustained PTT draws, and the cell recovered cleanly after each discharge cycle.
  • First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the contact pads with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The DC-PS8 charger requires a clean contact cycle to recognise the new BMS before it starts charging.

Why the DC-PS8 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery

A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V — not a full charge. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes sharply. If the cell hasn't been fully charged first, that spike can pull terminal voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold, dropping the radio mid-transmission. This is not a faulty battery. Charge the pack fully before the first use cycle and the cutout behaviour stops.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting this battery

The DC-PS8 uses simple voltage-threshold bar indicators — each bar corresponds to a voltage band. A new pack at storage voltage sits at the lower end of the display range, so the radio shows one fewer bar even though the cell is not depleted. This is not a capacity fault. Run the battery through one full charge cycle and the indicator will reflect the correct charge level at approximately 4.1–4.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DC-PS8 drops audio and cuts out exactly when I press PTT — is the new battery causing this?

Yes, and it's a known behaviour with a new cell. Li-ion batteries ship at storage voltage, and the transmit current spike when PTT is pressed can pull the terminal voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold before the pack has been fully charged. This isn't a fault with the battery. Charge it fully first, then test — the cutout will stop once the cell is at full voltage.

The charger dock flashes a fault LED every time I insert the new battery, but the original pack charges fine — what's wrong?

The DC-PS8 charger checks for a valid BMS handshake on insertion. If the contact pads on the battery or dock are even slightly contaminated, the dock rejects the pack and shows a fault LED. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the dock with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly with the radio off. The dock should accept the pack and begin charging on the next insertion.

After a full day on standby, the DC-PS8 shows a weaker signal bar than it did this morning — is the battery draining too fast?

The bar indicator on the DC-PS8 drops one threshold band as voltage falls under light standby load — this is normal voltage sag, not accelerated drain. Li-ion cells lose a measurable portion of charge under continuous low-draw standby over a full shift, and the voltage-threshold display reflects that directly. Check the terminal voltage with a multimeter: if it reads above 3.6V after a full day of standby, the cell is performing within spec. Recharge at end of shift rather than leaving the pack to sit at low voltage overnight.
