Fits Lizard M4, M440, M480, M485 lawn mowers; replaces OEM 25.2V lithium-ion battery pack.
25.2V and 6900mAh capacity delivers 173.88Wh for sustained blade motor power on residential yard cuts.
Battery slides into the vertical slot on the mower deck with a single locking tab; connector aligns flush.
We bench-tested this cell on a loaded M4 motor simulator; BMS held stable under peak blade inrush and shed load cleanly at thermal threshold.
Before first spring use, bring the battery indoors overnight if outdoor temperature is below 10°C — cold Li-ion cells have higher internal resistance and can trip the BMS when the blade motor draws peak startup current.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lizard M4 / M440 / M480 / M485 Series — 25.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 25.2V 6900mAh Li-ion battery that replaces the original pack on Lizard M4, M440, M480, and M485 cordless lawn mowers. It slots into the same battery bay and communicates with the mower's onboard BMS using the original connector and cell configuration. Capacity is 6900mAh (173.88Wh), matching the stock specification.

  • M4 series compatibility: The M4, M440, M480, and M485 share the same 25.2V battery platform — same connector housing, same cell count, same BMS handshake protocol. One replacement pack covers all of them without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through repeated high-draw discharge cycles simulating blade motor inrush. The BMS held cutoff thresholds correctly and recovered without error codes across all test runs.
  • First spring use tip: If the mower has been stored over winter, bring the battery indoors overnight before the first mow. Below 10°C, Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply — cold cells under blade motor inrush load can trigger a BMS trip before the mower cuts a single strip.

BMS cutoff on thick-grass and wet-grass blade load

The M4 series blade motor draws a large inrush current every time it spins up against resistance — wet grass and overgrown patches make that spike worse. If the BMS reads a current spike beyond its protection threshold, it trips and cuts power to protect the cells. This is not a battery fault. Letting the mower move at a slower pace through dense patches keeps the motor load below the trip point and prevents mid-row shutdowns.

Charger showing fault light after mower sat in garage all winter

Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly in storage. After several months in a cold garage, a pack can drop below the charger's minimum acceptance voltage — typically around 20V on a 25.2V system. The charger reads this as a fault rather than a discharged cell and refuses to start a charge cycle. Some Lizard chargers include a recovery or boost mode; engage it for 10–15 minutes to bring the cell voltage up to the acceptance threshold, after which normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Lizard M4 cuts out halfway through a row, then starts again after a minute — what's causing that?

This is thermal protection activating. The blade motor generates sustained heat under continuous load, and the pack's BMS trips when internal temperature hits its cutoff threshold. It resets once the cells cool down — usually within 5 minutes. If it happens consistently, slow the mowing pace through dense sections to reduce sustained motor load.

The charger won't accept the battery after it sat unused through winter — the fault light comes on immediately.

Winter self-discharge has likely pulled the cell voltage below the charger's acceptance floor, which on most 25.2V systems sits around 20V. The charger sees a voltage it classifies as a fault, not a flat battery, and refuses to start. Use the charger's recovery or boost mode if available, or hold the pack at room temperature for a few hours before trying again — some chargers will accept a slightly warmed pack at a borderline voltage.

The replacement battery feels noticeably warmer than my old one during the first few mows — is that normal?

Yes, new Li-ion cells run warmer during the first 3–5 charge-discharge cycles while the chemistry condenses and internal resistance stabilises. We measured elevated surface temperature on fresh packs during bench testing, and it normalised by cycle 5. If the pack is still running unusually hot after 5 complete cycles, check that the battery bay vents on the mower deck are clear of grass clippings.
