Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Pax S90 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (IS497)
This 7.4V, 2200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original IS497 cell in the Pax S90 portable payment terminal. It fits the S90 directly and restores full operating capacity for card transaction processing in retail and hospitality environments. Voltage and capacity match OEM spec exactly.
- S90 terminal fit: The S90 uses a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion pack with a BMS handshake that communicates state-of-charge to the terminal's charge IC. This battery carries the same communication protocol, so the terminal reads capacity correctly without throwing a battery fault on the status screen.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through full charge and discharge sequences on the S90, running card swipes, receipt prints, and wireless polling simultaneously. The BMS held stable through the combined current draw of the printer motor and the cellular modem without tripping overcurrent protection.
- First deployment tip: After installing this battery, run one complete transaction — tap or swipe through to receipt print — before deploying the terminal on a live till. The S90 maps battery capacity during normal operation and needs at least one full power cycle to display the charge indicator accurately.
Terminal rebooting mid-transaction after battery swap
The S90's receipt printer pulls a short but sharp current spike when the paper feed motor engages. On a freshly installed battery, the BMS hasn't yet profiled the cell and may interpret that spike as an overcurrent event, cutting power momentarily. This causes the terminal to reboot at the exact moment it tries to print — which looks like a software fault but is actually a BMS trip. Run five to ten dummy transactions on the bench before going live so the BMS can establish normal operating thresholds for the printer load.
S90 won't power on after sitting unused in a drawer
Li-ion cells self-discharge at roughly 2–3% per month. If the S90 sat dormant for several months, the cell voltage may have dropped below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell, or 5.0V pack total. At that point the BMS locks out discharge to protect the cell, and the terminal shows nothing when you press the power button. Connect the original Pax charger and leave it for at least 60 minutes without pressing any buttons; the charge IC will trickle-charge the pack back above the 6.0V recovery floor before switching to normal charge rate.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Pax S90 charge indicator has been stuck at 99% since I put the new battery in — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong. When a new Li-ion cell first enters the charge IC, the IC runs in top-off mode and holds the reported state-of-charge near 100% while it conditions the cell. The indicator unsticks after one complete discharge and recharge cycle. Run the terminal through normal use until it prompts a low battery warning, then charge it fully — the percentage will track correctly from that point forward.
The S90 terminal freezes or cuts out right when a customer taps to pay — it never did this with the old battery.
The contactless reader draws a brief current burst when it energises the NFC antenna to complete a tap transaction. If the terminal cuts out at that exact moment, the BMS is tripping on the combined load of the NFC reader plus the active wireless connection. This usually settles after the BMS has profiled the cell through a few complete charge and discharge cycles. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles on the bench and confirm the pack voltage sits at or above 8.3V fully charged before returning the terminal to service.
The Pax S90 feels noticeably warm after a busy lunch service — is the battery overheating?
Warmth during heavy use is normal on the S90. The terminal is simultaneously running the display, the cellular or Wi-Fi modem, and the receipt printer motor during a transaction rush, and that combined draw generates heat in both the battery and the processor. Concern starts if the terminal is hot to the touch and starts throttling transaction speed or displaying a temperature warning. If that happens, move the terminal away from enclosed spaces like a drawer or till cabinet where heat can't dissipate, and check that the back cover is fully seated — a loose cover traps heat against the battery.
