Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, then reseat it firmly — a fresh contact reset often clears this. If the error persists, the pack voltage may need a brief external boost to 2.0V before the base will accept it.
Talk time shorter than expected after the first few uses
NiMH cordless phone batteries do not deliver full rated capacity straight out of the box — this is normal chemistry behaviour, not a defect. Cells require three to five full charge-and-discharge cycles before reaching the 600mAh rating. Each cycle, talk time will increase noticeably. Run the handset down until it signals low battery, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat — by cycle five, capacity should stabilise at or near rated output.
